Park Jasmine
I went to the coffee shop as soon as I woke up, I slept the whole day at Yoo Ji's and somewhat my hangover was gone. It was 10:23 pm and I felt the need of going home and grabbing coffee. I walked to my go-to coffee shop, a good thing it was open 24/7.
As soon as I walked in, I saw Hong Dabin at the counter. I placed my bag in my usual spot and sat on the comfy chair. Americano, please. extra ice, extra shot, make it nice, araseo? I said the same time he did which caused him to look back at me. He wore his infectious smile and waved like he was happy to see me. I passed him a small smile then I walked up behind him. He took his coffee and his receipt and sat on the table next to mine. "Jasmine?" the old lady scrunched her forehead as soon as I walked to the counter. "Yes, caffeine for dinner" I winked and took my wallet from my pocket. "The usual" I paid for my coffee and sat back down on my usual spot.
"Did you know that coffee causes insomnia and restlessness?" I heard Hong Dabin speak. I looked at him and raised my eyebrow. "You won't be getting enough sleep if you drink coffee at night. It's almost 12" he said, his eyes not leaving his phone screen.
"Hmm, ironic because you're doing the same as me" I placed my elbows on the table and rested my chin on the palms of my hand and looked at him with sarcasm. He turned his attention to me and placed his phone on the table, screen down. We both stared at each other from the opposite tables.
"You look like you just woke up" he said while shifting his position to face me. I felt my face burn up and immediately fixed my bed hair and my hoodie. "You look fine" he chuckled. "Isn't it too late for you to be outside?" he asked.
"I just woke up, I overslept at Yoo Ji's house and I'm about to head home" I leaned back on my chair and crossed my arms against my chest. "What about you, why are you outside?" I asked, trying to keep the conversation, not really sure why but I think sparking up a conversation with him won't hurt.
"I was just gonna grab coffee and maybe food too before going back to the studio. We're working on some songs" he said casually while rhythmically tapping the table. The lady at the counter called his name and served him his coffee. He took his drink then sat down, now on the empty seat in front of me. "May I?" he asked.
I rolled my eyes at him and laughed quietly. "You're already sitting down" The lady called my name next and just as I was about to get up and get my drink, he stood up and got it for me. I smiled at his small gesture and mouthed him a thank you when he sat back down.
"Okay anyways" I took a sip of my coffee and placed it on the coaster. "Working on some songs?" I asked him, hoping that he will elaborate more on what he meant with that.
"Yeah, I write some songs and we record it. The recording studio is just down the street that's why I always grab coffee here. Very convenient by the way" he passed me a sly smile, his mouth against the rim of his cup. "You should come and hang out sometime. Yoo Ji is always hanging out with us when she's with Min Sik" he said.
"Okay yeah I'll keep that in mind" I smiled and sipped on my drink. His phone vibrated on the table and he picked it up and read the message that he got. He slipped his phone in his pocket and drank the last of his americano.
"Actually, I have to go" he said and wiped his mouth with the napkin. "Wanna come?" he said and stood up from his seat. I looked at him for a moment and we both stared at each other for a second. "I mean, you just had coffee and I think you won't be sleeping when you get home because of the caffeine. You can come with me if you don't have anything to do and hang out with me and the guys" he said while fixing his wristwatch.
"Okay yeah, you have a point. Let's go" I said then grabbed my iced coffee from the table and stood up.
He pulled the glass doors open for me, "After you" he said while standing aside and waiting for me to walk out. I laughed then exited the coffee shop. He walked beside me, his hands in his pocket. It was cold and the air was pushing my hood off of my head.
"Aren't you cold?" I asked him, he was slightly shivering and his body seemed tense because of the cold breeze.
"Very" he laughed and looked at me. His lips were turned into a smile ever since I saw him at the counter and it didn't fade until now, not even a little bit. "I forgot my jacket at the studio" he said then we stopped in our tracks to wait for the traffic lights to turn green. "I didn't get to formally introduce myself" he turned to me then extended his arm for me to shake. "I'm Hong Dabin" he said.
"Park Jasmine" I laughed then shook his hand playfully. We both crossed the road. I had to take big steps to keep up with him because he was awfully tall, I'm only 4'11. "Can you walk slowly" I sped walk a little and he looked at me and laughed.
"Sorry" he smiled cheekily and slowed down his pace. We both entered the building and walked to the elevator. We both stayed silent and it was getting awkward. I had to say something to break the tension.
"Who's gonna be there?" I asked him. He looked down at me and hummed.
"Ian, CREAM, and Scott" he said simply.
We both walked out of the elevator and walked in the doors of the studio. He walked in first. I stayed outside and pretended to tie my shoelaces to stall.
"Took you too long to come back" I heard someone say from inside. "We have to hustle, we have an album to release" someone said again.
"Yeah, sorry. I bumped into someone" he said.
"Who?"
"I actually brought her with me" Dabin said. "What are you doing" he whisper-yelled to me and I looked up at him.
"Tying my shoelaces" I murmured.
"Her?" I heard the guys say in unison. I finished tying my shoelace then stood up. Dabin placed his hand on the small of my back and gently pushed me into the studio.
Their eyes widen when they saw me and I gently waved at them. "Hey" I shyly said. Dabin closed the door behind us and walked past me. They all waved back and passed me very kind smiles but they were acting a little weird.
"Please sit and be comfortable" a tall guy wearing a beanie said then passed me a bottle of water. I didn't know why he was giving me a bottle of water but I took the offer. I sat on the leather couch and leaned back. "I'm Scott Kim but you can call me Rem" he smiled and sat beside me which caused the couch to sink a little. "That's Kyung-mo but you can call him Cream, Ian, and Dabin whom you've already met" he pointed to the guys and the guys waved at me and said their hellos.
I furrowed my eyebrows when he said I met Ian and I stared at him. He was strangely familiar and I swear, I saw him somewhere. Maybe I saw his face at Jaebin's party. He noticed that I was staring at him and he awkwardly smiled at me and I looked away.
I watched them mix and master beats and listened to Dabin sing in the booth. He was good and their songs were amazing. I could listen to this all day. I also got close to Rem, we were talking all day and we got along so well, as well as Cream and Dabin but Ian was too busy so I didn't get to chat with him that much.
"That's a wrap" Ian said and took his headphones off of his head and sat with us on the couch. "You guys wanna go home or order some food before heading out?" he asked and grabbed his phone from the table. They all suggested getting pizza and pitched in with the bill.
"Here" Dabin said and pulled money from his wallet. I pulled my wallet from my pocket and just when I was about to pull money out, Dabin pushed my wallet away and looked at me. "I got you" he said and smiled.
"Are you sure?" I asked him, still trying to pull money out of my wallet but his grip on my hand and wallet was too tight.
"It's fine, Jasmine. I got you" he assured me.
