The Drifters

He never once gave me night and day
Even though it first started in May
He never gave me any of his time
Even though I gave him all that's mine
I pushed and pushed for the love I once knew
But no matter what it was never two
Side by side thinking it was love
Yet always separate, never one
Watching the birds as they flew
To the freedom they always knew
I watched and I yearned
For he never let me learn
I struggled and fought for the love that was gone
For the war was never done
On my last straw, the balanced shifted
For they ever so slightly drifted
Madness and anger filled the empty holes
The love forgotten, beyond the soul
Losing my mind, I fought tooth and nail
Until one day it turned into a tale
