In a vast land of greens and grays, there lived a young girl of the name Franchesca who lived just outside a beautiful landscaped urban city. She was but a small girl with a big, beautiful dream and a lovely heart and soul. She is a very inquisitive, curious, and playful child, often questioned the smallest of things and loved to play and run a lot and climb trees that brought her attention to the picture of the outside city view. Though she has always seen the city from across the river, its image hasn't been always that interesting for the young Fran.
For in one peculiar day spent unlike any other, the young child decided to enjoy the scenery that had been available for her own eyes to indulge in since the moment she had known she lived there. As she went outside, questions that had long anticipated the moment to be answered, all of the sudden, was met with a pleasant surprise—
"Amazing! What tall buildings do these cities have! It's a wonder I haven't taken time to explore such magnificence," The child remarked in awe, for within her young mind a fresh idea struck within; a new dream.
Standing by the feet of another man's creation, Franchesca felt even more smaller than she already was on her own and, more so, more than how she already felt about herself.
It was then when she decided that it was her desire to one day, rise gloriously high up enough to see more of the buildings herself, for her minuscule physique could only behold so little. But how could such a speck of dust on the dirt of the Earth reach high to chance out, even the slightest form; a ray of hope for a such a dream?
Height might be a good deal of what she needs, but the girl knew her dreams needed to be bigger than that; for she had set a standard herself based solely on what she wanted.Franchesca wanted to fly.
Even just the thought sent shivers down her spine that reached out down to her pitter-pattering legs and makes her tiny toes curl. She smiled a genuine smile.
A smile of happiness, forfeit, and acceptance; at the same time, a lonely smile that forgave fate's selfish and one-sided ways. Why?
Simply because it was impossible for her to reach the sky. What more to reach and grab hold of it the way the buildings pierce through it?
She didn't really know how to make it possible either.
In fact, if she were to be asked about how her small body gave her benefit aside from fitting in short spaces and camouflage among even younger children, nay did anyone find a good answer.
But in her defense, even for a short girl with short, petite legs, she could run for she knew how to. And she did. Farther into the city, with the thought of running from the buildings that reminded her of constant truth, so she never has to face her lonely dream again. Remorse is one feeling she feels she might be too young to have.
And it is not good to hold regrets for dreaming a dream. Wishful thinking is an amazing and a humbling experience of youth, after all.Yet the poor girl does not realize what she had been doing; diving in deeper into a maze witnessed a mile away from the entrance just to escape. Truth be told that no matter how oversized her heart is in ratio to her childlike form, there's no room left for a working mind to grow.
(In short, she's a bit naïve.)
It has been no secret that cities are almost wholly different worlds from the Earth itself; they are unique and not a single one of them are like the other. Cities tend to be dense, too, as the quick, busy days only get busier during the long nights, and each individual stands for their own; not a person to trust. In other words, the city is definitely not a place for a child to be roaming around alone, no matter what time of the day. Especially not Franchesca.
Now, she already knew she wasn't allowed to roam too much. Her mother had warned her the danger of being alone in the big world, as it is not the scenery that captivates and betrays the fool, but the people inside. It may not be Franchesca's first time in the city, as she went in several times already but with her parents' supervision, but it just hits different not to be with her beloved mother.
The tall men and women who seemed taller than the fascinating buildings payed little to no attention to her passed her by, only occasionally giving her cold looks with their baring, soulless, intimidating eyes. That was the moment she felt much more small and vulnerable. As she ran deeper and deeper into the concrete jungle, fear grew so much worse that started to ring in her head— a palpitating song, an ode by her dream goals that demand to be fulfilled; All Star by Smash Mouth.
Ah, yes. Her comfort zone; the song her mother used to sing to her to sleep, and the song she sings to herself to calm down. And as the girl grew nearer to the heart of the city, the song grew louder. The chant that had formed in her heaed Thus, her lovely genie who would soon grant her wish came in sight and reach in the form of an unknown stranger. This odd encounter was lead into conversation when the much taller stranger kneeled down to face Franchesca in an eye-to-eye contact, smiling, and with that, spoke lowly but carefully—
"Little girl, would you wish to grow taller or see higher?"
—As if it were a secret yet to be soiled.
