"One last time, Sylar. You can do it." Her mom cranks off the water, turning and turning until it squeaks to a stop. She placed a hand on her daughter to steady her. Sylar shook her head.

Her mom smiled. "But tell me, little wolf. Do you want to punish those who wronged you?"

Sylar nodded and gripped the rim of the porcelain sink and tried to steady her hands.

"One last time," she whispered.

"One. Last. Time."

Whatever you do, you're still my mother.

She took a deep breath, placed the little red pill on her tongue.

Whatever you do.....

Be brave, Syla.

Be strong, Syla.

Do it for her, Syla.

But she can't.

"Mom," she whispered. "I can't."

Her mother scoffed. "Of course you can. Think of your brother"

Her brother. Her love. Her husband. Her World. "Fine."

Cool, casual. Heart beating fast. Heart beating home.

And the pill goes down. And the world goes dark.

And she

can't

breathe.
