Reilly woke up to the same loud buzzing of his alarm clock. The red lights flashed 6:30 A.M. With a sigh, he sat up and rubbed his eyes. Reilly took in a deep breath, his nose filled with the smell of dirty clothes, and spray paint. His whole body was sore, from little to no sleep. He pushed himself from his bed. Reilly worked his way around the mountains of dirty clothes, empty pop cans. Then he continued into the kitchen, where his younger sister Jess stood watching the news. Her light brown hair was twisted into a thick braid the dangled just past her shoulders, and an old worn out orange jacket that reached past her simple white tank top down to her blue jean shorts. Suddenly Jess turned to him and said, “Really, you’re still wearing the same clothes? God that’s disgusting!” Reilly just ignored the prude comment, and started to make his usual peanut butter toast. As he sat down next to his sister, an ear piercing screech of tires across the icy pavement sounded into the air. Reilly and Jess sat in shock while a grey SUV slid down the frosty road on fire. Suddenly, the SUV hit a dry patch of asphalt, which sent the flaming car into the air. When the grey vehicle finally hit the ground again, hit became a tall mound of flames and sparks.

Jess jumped up and ran to the window, Reilly stood and followed his sister. Soon fire trucks and police started to show with in minutes. They must have been standing at that window for a while, because the next thing they knew the dusty old bus was waiting just beyond their driveway. Jess snatched up her tan and gold bag and dashed out the door. Reilly slowly reached for his old black bag that he had used for years. Just as Jess had hoped on the bus, Reilly just locked the front door, and started down the driveway.

Once Reilly sat in his usual seat, he pulled on his headphones and listened to his music. After several minutes of a bumpy ride, they hit a pot hole which knocked Reilly headphones off. As he reached down for them, he over heard their bus drivers’ conversation with another bus driver. They were talking about the car crash, and how it was weird that more than ten crashes had occurred in the past twenty-four hours. The local hospital had started to use the back storage room as a place to put more patients because; the hospital was full to capacity.

After what seemed like hours, the bus finally came to a stop at the front of the high school. When Reilly got off, he dashed over to his sister and her friend Rachel. With a firm grip he grabbed he arm and said fiercely, “…If anything happens, anything! Get to the gym, and hide. I’ll meet you there. Just don’t leave until I find you!” Jess gave him a strange look and busted into laughter. “…whatever!...weirdo!” Jess shouted over her shoulder as she walked away to her first period class. Right as the first bell rang out, Reilly had just sat in his usual seat; second row from the door and three seats back. When the whole class finally came in, Mr. Bindo continued there lesson from yesterday. Like everyday, Reilly just blacked out every single word Mr. Bindo said. When suddenly the ring of the intercom shattered Reilly from his thoughts. It was Mr. Johnston; the principal of the high school, “..We are going into-(the sound of glass shattering cut off Mr. Johnston, then he continued) We are going into a real lockdown! Teachers lock all windows and doors!” With that the intercom beeped out, and Mr. Bindo ran to the windows and slammed them shut. As Mr. Bindo turned to face the door. Reilly remembered what he had told his sister. He jumped up and out of his seat. Reilly bolted for the door, but Mr.Bindo stood in his way. “Reilly get back to your seat right NOW!” Mr. Bindo shouted. Reilly knew there was no way Mr.Bindo would let out of the class room, so Reilly clenched his left hand into a fist and swung a powerful punch right into Mr.Bindos nose. Then Reilly through open the door and sprinted down the hallway. As he pushed himself to run, his lungs were burning. After several minutes Reilly realized a girl and two boys were running with him. Turning down the same hallways and sprinted to stay with him. Finally he slid to a stop at the gym doors, as did the others behind him. Pulling the door open Reilly and his followers ran to the middle of the gym. Reilly’s heart was pounding, Jess was no where to be seen. “Jess!” Reilly shouted hopelessly. He couldn’t breath. As he turned around to leave, he heard a voice shout, “ Reilly….is that you?” His eyes followed the sound of the voice, to the top of the bleachers. There stood Jess, and Rachel. Reilly ran to the bleachers, and climbed up to the top as fast as humanly possible. When he finally reached Jess, he gave her a hug. “I was scared too, but Reilly, Its’ only a lockdown drill. No need to totally freak out!” Jess said with a worried voice. “Naw…” Said one of the boys who followed Reilly. The boy was bent over with one hand on his knee, and the other across his stomach, as if trying to catch his breath. “…its not a drill. These strange…animal like creatures were breaking into the main office windows. I didn’t get a good look at them, they were moving too fast. But one thing was for sure, they smelled of something fierce. When they got in through the window, they jumped Mr. Johnston, and a few of the other things jumped at Nancy in the front desk. That’s when I took off! I ran as fast as I could, that’s when I saw Reilly so I followed him here.” After that everyone sat in sigh lance. Every now and than, they exchanged glances with each other. Then the boy who had told them what had happened to Mr. Johnston, Stood up to Reilly with one hand out and said, “Well, I’m Danny and I like video games!” “…Good to know Danny..” said Reilly jokingly “…I’m Reilly, and this is my sister Jess!” Then Rachel waved and with a smile and she said quietly, “Rachel…Nice to meet you.” Suddenly the girl that had followed Reilly also stood up and started, “Hello, I’m Anna…” As she sat back down her blond bangs dangled above her bright blue eyes, that almost seemed matched her teal V neck tee shirt. Then the other boy who was wearing a purple football jersey with the black number ten in the middle of his chest, reached over Anna’s head to shake Reilly’s hand and said, “Hey everybody, I’m Alex.”
