I reeled the window of the car down and let the wind ruffle my hair around my face. I flicked the radio on and began to yell the lyrics to ‘Good Time’ as loud as I could, grinning at my lack of maturity.

With the music blaring, the wind in my hair and the power of the car beneath me, I felt free.

Eventually the song fizzled out and I was forced to stop at a red light. I didn’t mind waiting – I would be late for rehearsals, but who cares?

I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel, and realized the music was gone. The car has a really annoying function that switches off the radio when you haven’t been moving for a few minutes, and to turn it on again you have to push in a special key that’s attached to the dashboard.

‘Bloody hell.’ I kept my eye glued to the traffic lights – I didn’t want to be too late to rehearsals – and with one hand I tried to position the key into its slot.

‘It won’t go in!’ I screamed in frustration after several attempts.

‘That’s what she said!’ A voice called and I tear my eyes from the light to find the speaker.

It’s a gorgeous, brown haired girl in a taxi beside me. Her eyes are a green-tinted blue, her straight hair framing her pretty face.

‘Did you just say that?’ I asked through her open window.

She nodded, grinning cheekily. ‘The name’s Laura.’

‘I’m Louis.’ I strike a manly pose, accidentally setting the car horn off. I feel my cheeks heat up as she laughs.

‘I know.’ She finishes laughing and gasps for breath. ‘You’re THE Louis. Louis Tomlinson.’

‘You’re a fan?’ I’m fascinated. They’re not usually that calm.

‘Of course.’ She pokes her tongue out.

‘Are you going to give me carrots?’ I ask suspiciously.

She groans. ‘No, that is so lame…’

‘Thank god.’ I scribble something on the back of a receipt, scrunch it in a ball and throw it neatly through the taxi window. ‘Call me?’

She smiles cutely and her lane turns a corner and the car disappears. I sit in a happy daze, my spirits high after talking to her.

‘Oi faggot!’ A voice breaks into my daydreams. ‘The light’s green!’
