His world came to an end as the casket of his supposed-lover was lowered into the earthy ground. Everything faded into black and white, the colours all blurred into an endless sea of grey. Nothing felt the same.

Boboiboy laid his head on the cocoa stand's table as he stared at the untouched cup of chocolate. The warmth of the drink had long cooled down.

Wasn't I supposed to save everyone?

His eyes fell on his boots.

Why can't I save her?

A hand was placed on his back, causing him to sit up and stare at the newcomer. Through dazed eyes, he could make out a familiar face and kind expression.

Even if he couldn't remember jack shit, he knew this old man was someone important to him.

"Don't feel too bad," Tok Aba said softly, sitting down on the stool across him. "Yaya's in a better place now. It's in our religion."

Boboiboy stared at him with blank eyes. He tried to recall the times that he spent with Yaya. He attempted to remember the adventures he shared with his friends—with Fang, Gopal, Yaya and Ying.

His mind hit a dead end. It was a chaotic blank.

"I just want to remember," Boboiboy rasped. "Why can't I remember anything? How is that robot flying? Why can that guy turn rocks into chocolate? Am I hallucinating? Am I dreaming? Why won't I wake up? How do I wake up?"

"It's not a dream," he assured him. "The doctors say it's temporary, but there's a slight chance that you'll never regain your memories. And you know what? It's okay."

Boboiboy buried his face into his hands.

"You can create new memories," Tok Aba continued. "Your friends and I will help you to make new ones. Maybe you lost your old memories, but you can always make new friendships and new memories."

Boboiboy nodded his head lightly, the words or encouragement and kindness deflected unintentionally.

Why can't he just remember?
