"Cascade! Ms. Tulip needs you!" One of my friends said as they shook me in my bed. I groaned, sitting up. "What does she want." My friend shrugged, "I dunno. She just needs to see you." I got out of my bed and walked down the hall that leads to Ms. Tulips room. What did I do now, I thought. I knocked on her door, and a voice inside said, "Come in!" I slowly opened the door.
Ms. Tulip smiled at me. Makeup was caked onto her wrinkly face, and she almost looked like a circus clown. "What did I do." I muttered as I sat down in the chair in front of her. "You did nothing, young one." She said to me with her kind voice, "I just have some exciting news. But first, a question. Do you think you'll ever get adopted?" I shook my head, looking down at the wood floor. "No, Ms. Tulip."
She nodded, "I have noticed you are the least wanted orphan in this entire orphanage. So, I have been thinking. What if I put you on one of those young teams." I looked at her in surprise, "Wait, what." To be honest, being on a team has been my dream for as long I as can remember. "Which one?" I asked excitedly. Ms. Tulip gave me a kind smile, "You seem to be a perfect thief catcher. You have the cleverness, the speed, the strength. You are a perfect example of one."
I blinked. Ms. Tulip rarely ever gave compliments like that. "Really?" I asked, and she nodded, an amused smile on her wrinkly face. "You need to get packing, the captains are waiting for you." She said. I nodded excitedly, and quickly slipped out of my chair. She stopped me before I could leave the office, "Good luck. And if this doesn't work out for you, you will always have a home here at the orphanage."
I smiled back at her and left, gathering all my stuff in a suitcase. I said goodbye to my friends and explained were I was going. A lot of them seemed jealous, and I don't see why they wouldn't be. I was going to live out the rest of my life hunting down criminals and doing what I want without adults telling me what to do. I waited for the lead director, Ravine, to come pick me up. Soon a big man wearing a suit walked into the room I shared with a few other girls.
He studied me with a rock hard stare, and then told me he was Ravine. I nervously shook his huge hand, scared that he would crush it. I followed him outside, were a motorcycle was. He swung his huge body onto the motorcycle, and patted the seat behind him. I was surprised how the motorcycle didn't collapse under his weight. I cautiously sat on the seat behind him. He started the motorcycle, and we drove through a vast forest.
Sometimes branches would scrape my arms, or vines would hang so low that me and Ravine would have to duck. Before I knew it, we exited the forest and started driving through a big meadow. We had to have passed by at least fifty different types of flowers. Halfway through the meadow Ravine told me we were almost there. And sure enough, we had made it to the huge gate that blocked the outside world from the housing of the teams.
It was amazing. Silver, gold, and copper designs ran from the top of the gate to the bottom. I could make out knights running to battle, magical daggers and swords, all sorts of plants and herbs, animals, and alot more. Ravine saw me gazing at the gate and gave me an amused look. Then he turned toward the gate and rested one of his huge meaty hands on it. It slowly swung open with a creak. Ravine took my luggage, then gave his motorcycle a tap, making it disappear.
I stepped through the entrance, and gazed at the land before me. A large gravel road stretched down towards the horizon, twisting and turning every once in a while. Part of it lead to a large bunch of houses, while another lead to a bunch of dusty fields. Instead of walking down the road, we turned right, heading towards a medium sized house. It was black and gold, and very beautiful. We walked up onto the front porch, which was painted gold.
Ravine opened the door for me, and I stepped into the living room. He lead me up the stairs and into an office. Inside the office, two girls sat in chairs in front of a very organized black desk. One of the girls had brown curly hair and tan skin, while the other had orange hair, freckles, and had a black eyepatch over her right eye. I recognized them both instantly. It was Bear and Autumn, the leaders of the Thief Catchers.
