Red lay on her bed, and thought about how she was going to get to her grandmother’s house. She had packed the things her mother wanted to give Reds grandma, she packed some food and water for the trip, and she had packed a knife and gun just in case she ran into trouble. Red smiled, “I think I am ready.” She jumped out of her bed and looked out of her window, it was starting to lighten up outside but the sun still had not peeked above the mountain, it would be the perfect time to head out.
Red picked up her bag and hooked on her red cloak, “mother, I am going to head to grandmothers now!” “Alright,” her mother yelled from the other room, “see you tomorrow, and come home safely!” Red smiled, it sounded like she just woke up her poor mother, “see you tomorrow!”
Red opened the outside door and stepped into the freezing morning air, she wrapped her cloak tighter around and started to walk through the town to the forest on its outskirts. The town wasn’t very lively yet, which made Red feel like it was some eerie ghost town.
When Red finally got to the edge of the woods she turned back and looked at the town, “see you all tomorrow,” then she turned back to the path and continued on her way to her grandmother’s house.
The sun was showing itself completely now, and she could feel the warmth of it coming through the trees. Red felt like it was taking forever to get to her grandmother’s house. The eerie feeling of the town had crept its way into the woods with her, which made her feel as if she was being followed. Wait, what if she was being followed. Red whirled around and looked about her to make sure no one was behind her. She sighed with relief when she saw no one following her. Red turned back toward the way to her grandma’s house, but something was different, on the path ahead of her sat a dog. Dog? No, it looked more like a wolf. She started to back up slowly, where had it come from, she only turned around for a moment. “Was it the one following me,” She whispered to herself.
Then the wolf opened its mouth, which allowed its sharp teeth to be seen. A noise came from its mouth, at first it sounded like a low growl but then it shifted into words, “where are you going. Did you think I wouldn’t notice you slowly walking backwards?” Red stopped mid step, the wolf just spoke, wolves can’t talk. “Not sure how a dog is talking?” the wolf started to stand up, which showed how large it really, it looked a whole lot more like a wolf, “I have no idea how I can talk either. One day I was hunting rabbits, then suddenly I was able to think and reason,” it then smiled at her coldly, “I have reasoned today that I am going to eat you.” Then, in a single moment, the wolf leaped at her. She felt as if that moment was then frozen.
The wolf was in mid leap with its yellow teeth growling at her. Was this the end, was this how little red riding hood would die? No, she wasn’t going to let it end like this. She dropped her bag and turned her whole body to the side and jumped out of the monster’s way, barely missing its claws. The wolf hit the ground not knowing what had happened, but it quickly snapped out of its awed state. It turned its head toward Red putting its mouth back into its fierce growl. The wolf started to run toward her, opening its mouth to bite into her leg, but it was not going to get her this time ether. Red climbed the tree that was right in front of her, quickly getting out of reach of the monster.
“Ha!” Little Red yelled back down to the wolf, “Now you can’t get me.” The creature looked up at her, but instead of the angry snarl she had expected it smiled, “now all I need to do is sit here and wait for you to come back down.” Red didn’t think of that, how was she going to get out of this one. She looked around hoping that there would be something she could use. She found it, there was a gun laying on the ground next to the bag she had dropped, she had brought it just in case something happened. Now it was her turn to smile, she just needed to reach the gun before the wolf could get her.
Red stood up on the branch she was on and looked down at the creature. The animal waited for her to come down, “oh, are you ready to get eaten now?” “Not today, big bad wolf.” She leaped off the branch and landed a couple feet away from the gun, the wolf stared to run toward her, it leaped into the air, she lifted up her gun and… Boom!
Red stared at the body on the ground, she had done it, and she would live.
