Ever since one of your best friends Gwen found a good job in the big city, you've taken over her job of being co-counselor at Camp Campbell. When you first arrived on that warm, June morning, you didn't expect much besides some vaguely camping themed activities with a group of little kids, until you met David.

You two hit it off immediately. You enjoyed camping, but David loved it, and it really rubbed off on you. He was happy to find someone with approximately as much enthusiasm about the outdoors as he did. It's been a month since you became a counselor, and you and David are great friends.

You wake up refreshed early in the morning, and look around your room. A book you've been meaning to finish, your phone sitting patiently on its charger, brightly colored curtains diluting the sunlight into multicolored rays, and a closet of a few counselor uniforms with some pajamas as well as jackets unless it gets cold. You get up out of bed and put on some slippers to go wake up David, who's come to depend on you as his alarm. Your footsteps knock sleepily against the wood cabin floors.

Before you even get the chance to finish knocking on his door, you can hear David energizing to full power, like the ball of static he is. You hear his gravelly yawn and him stepping his feet onto the floor, getting out of bed.

"Goooood morning, Y/N! You're really the best alarm, you know that?" he exclaims. You chuckle, "Glad you can depend on me,"

Bumps, steps, fabric, and the door of his room swinging open to greet you.

"Let's go wake those campers, they've got quite a day ahead of them!" he states excitedly, holding a little piece of paper listed with several abnormal activities. "Probably not as gently as I woke you, huh?" you joke.

"If we woke them that nicely, they'd never be prepared for the very noisy birds that chirp on the cold forest mornings!" he said. Though a self-proclaimed bird enthusiast, it was clear to you that he found them a little annoying. He slept with pillows covering his ears. In fact, the reason you started waking him up was because his alarm was so loud it woke you up.

You walked behind him, trying desperately to keep up with his violently brisk walking pace, to wake up the campers. He walks with such...gusto you think. You almost wish you could get up right behind him and-

David's wake-up-horn blares loudly throughout the air, with the chorus of a thousand annoyed night-owl campers.

You all proceed to the Mess Hall, where you and David giggle and tell jokes over scrambled eggs and toast. There's something about his shining eyes that encapsulate you, something about his unwavering sunny demeanor that fill you with joy and excitement, like a drug. You really couldn't get enough of him.

"Hey Y/N! Are you gonna watch us like you're supposed to as a counselor or is your job to make sure David's eyes are still there?" Max jeers.

"Go sit down, you snivelling cockalorum," you insult back jokingly.   Max scoffs, but bounces from a laugh he tried so hard to hide.

"Where'd you get all those words, Y/N?" David asked, impressed by your $5 vocabulary. You put on a rather Shakespearean accent. "My appreciation for words mirrors my appreciation for you," you say, lightly swiping your forefinger below his chin.

David blushes.

The rest of the day is pretty normal for a day at Camp Campbell. Max, Nikki, and Neil trying to burn down the place (as well as themselves) and David coordinating the activities while you fend off Max's insults with more insults, though unfortunately none as nicely worded as what you said in the Mess Hall.

The Sun sets over the trees and the hills, and David carries a scary stack of logs towards the center of the camper's tents in prep for the nightly campfire. You jog over behind him and maneuver your hands around David so you can save him if the logs decide to fall on him. Being this close to David was a blessing to you, and made adrenaline and dopamine (and testosterone) run rampant through your body. David got goosebumps and started perspiring, and became kind of red, alerting you he felt the same way. You smiled.
