Jared's p.o.v.
I was jolted awake be my phone buzzing next to me. It was a text from Emma telling me I had to be in a meeting in twenty minutes, as well as thirteen missed calls from Shannon. I groaned and rolled over to check the time. I had forgotten Rhiannon was here; it was nice waking up to someone sleeping next to me. It's a feeling that had been a distant memory, and I quite liked it to be honest. Eh what was I thinking things like this lead to problems. I need to get her out of here quick before anything happens.
I hauled myself out of bed and threw some clothes on. I scribbled down a note telling her where I was and when I'd be back. I dropped it on her phone and walked out.
I finally wrapped up the meeting and was almost to my truck when Emma stopped me. Shit. "Jay, who's this girl?"
"She just a friend that needs help."
"Jared, Jamie told me about her. She's a drug addict you pulled off the streets. Do you know how crazy that sounds! I don't want you getting tangled into some crap that could have been avoided. She obviously knows you have money and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets some out of you that's just how addicts are. You know that."
I shook my head, "No Emma, she won't. Don't worry about it, okay? And yes when you say it like that it does sound ridiculous, but she's different for some reason. She's..." I couldn't find the right words to describe her. Me of all people. "I don't know what she is Emma she's just different." I slid into my truck and started the engine. Emma sighed and walked to her car and drove off. Was this bad news?
The closer I got to home the worse the butterflies got. I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't let things like this happen. I am in control of myself, mind and body. But she threw some kind of hitch in that. This aggravated me.
When I pulled into the driveway part of me was hoping she'd be gone. Then there was the other side that started to panic. What if she did leave? I won't be able to find her. Shit! I unlocked the door and stepped in to the sound of her singing 'Landslide', one of my favorites. I shut the door quietly and followed the sound. I found her in the studio sitting upside down on the couch playing my guitar and singing softly. I didn't want her to stop so I stood out of her line of vision and watched her. I noticed she had showered and done her makeup. She was wearing this long royal blue dress that hung off the back of the couch covering her feet and her long black hair fell onto the floor. I hadn't realized how beautiful she really was. I was snapped out of my thoughts when she spoke, "You know it's creepy to stand there and watch people like that." I blushed. What the hell she made me blush.
I stepped into the room and walked to the back of the couch, "Sorry, I didn't want you to stop singing. You have a nice voice. Umm, why are you upside down?" She smiled up at me and shrugged. I accepted that as a feasible answer, and took the guitar from her putting it back in its stand then flopped down next to her. "How are you?"
"Good now that I've finally gotten some decent sleep. Hey, do you mind taking me out to my brothers so I can get my car. I have some business to attend to around the city."
"Sure, but no bad business I hope?"
"No, real business. I promise."
On the car ride out to her brothers she gazed silently out the window. "So what is it you really do?"
"I own things." She stated flatly.
"Yeah, like what?"
She sat quietly for a while. I didn't think she was going to answer me. "Well, it started with eight nightclubs around the world when I was twenty one. Then an airline, and currently acquiring three diamond mines." She seemed so nonchalant about these things like everyone has them.
