Court Room, Royal Palace, Indraprashta
"You are right Sulekha Aryaa, Samraat Vara would not have summoned this court had it not been extremely vital",said the Home Minister, Garuda.
But what is the reason behind this. This call was so sudden. What will he talk about? Is it about another Mayan invasion?!" remarked Amrita, Minister of Art and Culture.
"As far as I know, there has been no invasion of any sorts for the past 6 months. If anything of this kind would have taken place then my soldiers would have definitely informed me first, or Samraat would have talked to me about it before summoning this Court." said Kavacha, the Supreme Commander or Senapati of the Aryan army.
Suddenly,Garuda perked up." Wait, I remember. Today Samraat asked me about the declining ---"
"----Female population in Bharat. Really Garuda, you need to do something about your memory."
All eyes turned towards the majestic Royal Court entrance door as a tall, handsome figure, with a strong jawline and a slightly large nose made his way regally to the Emperor's golden throne.
Everyone rose to greet the monarch. He smiled and waved at them to sit.
"Yes, it is true. We all hoped that Princess Shanta's curse would not manifest. But unfortunately it did. Garuda had been keeping a count of the sex ratio for the past 7 years where he found it to be decreasing steadily. But the reduction in the female population in the last 3 years had been alarming. If this goes on, we wont find any female babies after 10 years. Satrupa, our Child and Wildlife Welfare minister along with the other scientists had been trying their best to find a solution. The priests had also performed several yagyas but to no avail."
"A group of 50 citizens came to meet me yesterday morning. They complained that their sons were unable to get suitable brides. Also, we noticed that the number of female children enrolling in Gurukul is also decreasing. And no, its not because of female foeticide Sulekha. We have investigated in that!We are not the Mayans. It is all happening due to the curse! " Samraat Vara said to the Education Minister Sulekha understanding her apprehension.
"Indeed. I have noticed that too. Not a single one of my cousins had a female baby this year."
"O Lord Ram. This is absolutely terrifying!"
"Isn't there anything else that we can do?"
A loud guard announcing the Queen's entrance quieted everyone and they got up to greet their Samragi. Queen Chitra was not overtly beautiful but surely was as graceful and regal as a tiger. She had a slightly long round face with sharp facial features, eyes decorated with kohl having long eyelashes and soft plump lips. She wore a plain cream coloured dhoti complimented with a green blouse and a cream coloured angavastram embroidered with red. A simple tiara decorated her hair while modest ornaments adorned her frame. Even if she was modestly dressed for the ocassion, her choice of clothing looked absolutely impeccable. Infact, the queen was known for her glorious fashion sense throughout Bharatvarsha. Queen Chitra greeted back with a namaste and waved at them to sit down.
She said,"I have brought some of our most talented scientists who would like to speak about the difficulties they have been facing during their experiments. After that,I would be greatful if any of you could come up with a useful suggestion to solve this matter."
2 scientists made their way to the centre of the Royal court and climbed the raised platform facing all the ministers.
The older one of the two smiled broadly and greeted everyone. He wore a red coloured dhoti with a matching angavastram which had significant burn marks all over it. A janoi was draped over his upper body and a small tuft of elongated hair protruded from the back of his head indicating that he was a Brahmin. He introduced himself as Abhaidev and the younger scientist as Adheesh. The younger one wore clothes similar to his senior but he had a gleam of a mad scientist in his eyes which made it seem like he was not mentally present in the room and was perhaps thinking about his innovations . He was short, and had small features but still managed to look dignified in front of all the tall people.
Abhaidev spoke,"Last week we began a project of creating female foetuses artificially and then we planned to implant them in a willing woman's uterus. But shockingly, the lysosome production inside the cell increased all of a sudden, so much so, that all the cells died within a prahar even after our continued efforts to keep the zygote alive."
"We had also been working on a medicine to increase the X chromosome count in males. But it seems the devas are angry with us. Whenever we seem to reach a conclusion on our projects some kind of supernatural force manages to destroy it." Adheesh added.
"Meaning?"asked Samraat.
"Meaning that the building catches fire all of a sudden inspite of all the precautions or a strong wind overturns the apparatuses or the chemicals stop reacting altogether."
"In short, Princess Shanta is angry with us.The devas are angry with us. We have to conduct a Devi Puja and repent and ask for forgiveness for our ancestors. We NEED the devas to comply with us."summarised Sulekha.
Amrita said," Okay, I agree the devas have all the right to be vexed. The injustice done to Princess Shanta should not be simply ignored. But why are we at the receiving end of this curse?"
"The devas are not angry at us. They can never be. They are full of love for all beings in this creation. Its simply that they want us to understand what happens when one gender is discriminated against the other. We as Aryans and as humans should not allow our society to be chauvinistic. We should all take this as a small lesson and try to improve our thinking process as well as inculcate respect towards all beings within our future generation."advised Queen Chitra.
The ministers agreed.
"You are right, Chitra. But for now, we need to conduct a big Devi Yagya where we will invoke each and every goddess from all parts of the creation and ask for their forgiveness from the bottom of our hearts." Samraat Vara finalised. Everyone nodded.
He stood up and smiled at the scientists,"Thank you for giving us your precious time. Please do not lose hope and continue your hardwork.Namaste."
With that the scientists left the Royal Court.
"But,what about the bride crisis problem?"
Everyone sighed loudly.
