I finished my 'meal' and decided I was now 16, I seriously had to try and escape. But how? This was so hard to think about. I knew a lot about when they left and went to sleep and stuff. I looked around the room trying to find a way that I could leave. My eyes stopped at the cardboard windows. I had never actualy looked behind the cardboard. I got up and began walking as quietly towards the windows. I peeled off the tape carefully trying not to make a lot of noise. I got most of the tape undone and threw the cardboard to the ground. I looked out the window, I was on the first floor? of an apartment building? I never really knew because my first plan, I didn't even bother looking out towards the window, I just tried to run towards the door. I smiled though, I knew I could jump out this window somehow. I put the cardboard back up and went to sit on my bed. I didn't know where I was but I decided that I would do this.
I would put on a pair of leggings they bought me, some t-shirts and throw a sweatshirt over that. I still had my uggs from the football game so I decided to wear those with a few pairs of socks. I would get my dinner in and use the bathroom right before I left. I'm going to open the window then put the cardboard back up so I can just rip it down and jump out. They usually shut lights off and everything off around 10. That's when I would leave. I couldn't leave durring they day because if I left durring the night, they would be in bed and have to get dressed and everything, or if they didn't run out in proably boxers and freeze. They would also have to get out of bed. I would run on the main road, when I opened the window I saw the road from there. It looked sort of deserted, I hoped we were still in my state. I figured I would run until I found an open gas station or something. I could probably stop places to catch my breath or something. I would run all night until I found someone.
Tonight was the night I was going to escape. I got up and opened my window. It was still January, but it wasn't too cold. I got into the shower and took a long shower for once. I got changed into what I would be running away in. I brused my teeth and brused out my hair and went back to sitting on my bed. This is basically what I did everyday. Brad came in and gave me breakfeast and lunch. It was around 6 and i thought my dinner would be coming soon. Soon enought, Kyle came in with a plate of pasta and sauce and some drink. I figured I wouldn't risk it and I poured it out after he left. I was glad they actually made me a meal today. I ate it fast and sat for the next four hours waiting.
It was finally about to be ten. I didn't want to go through that again. I couldn't. I had so many bruises and even scars after that took forever to heal. "Go to bed." I heard one of them say and I shut off my light. When it got to be alittle after ten, I got up and walked as slowly as I could, and as quiet as I could. I got to the window and gently pulled off the cardboard. The cold winter air hit me like a brick and I was shivering by then. I slowly got up onto the windowsil and twisted my legs around and tried to get as far as I could out the window before I actually had to jump. I jumped and gathered myself before I started to run. I hadn't ran in about two years so I was alittle wobbly at first but I found myself running faster. I got to the main road and had been running for a long time I thought. There were stores but they were all closed. No cars past me which was weird but I finally got to a highway entrence. I didn't reconize the town but I hoped it was the same state. I decided I would get on the highway and walk towards the edge.
I had been walking on this highway for maybe a half hour to an hour and stilll hadn't gotten stopped by a cop or anything. I wanted to though. All I could think about was somehow getting home. I kept looking at all the exit signs and didn't reconize anything. Then I saw it. My face lit up and I couldn't believe it. The sign said: 'EXIT 38 UNCASVILLE' the underneath it was a smaller sign that said: 'MOHEGAN SUN CASINO' I knew that my mom had a membership card there and so did her boyfriend at the time. I knew I would be safe there. I knew they would help me in some sort of way. I started to run until I got to the exit and walked again. I had no clue what time it was but hopefully they were like open or something. I got to the end of the exit ramp and ran again. I got to the main entrance I think. I walked in and found the nearest person who worked there who looked somewhat nice to talk to. I found a woman in about her 20's I think. I decided to go up to her.
"Hi. I need help. Okay, basically i've been kidnapped and been missing for 2 years about. I tried to run away before but they caught me and now I finally escaped and have been running until I reconized this exit. I don't know what to do. I'm 16 I think and my name is Karen. I think my mom has a membership card here so I don't know maybe you could look her up or contact her or something but I really don't know what to do and i'm so scared could you help me please?" I finally looked up at the girl and her face was in shock. She finally spoke after awhile. "Yes, oh my god, come with me." I was so thankfull. I think I actually escaped this time. I looked at all the suprised faces of me walking through the casino and I heard some conversations. I'm not sure what day it was or anything but I just kept following her. I heard some woman yelling at maybe her husband that they had to go and it was getting late and her son had football the next morning and they had to leave early. I kept walking ignorning it and then it hit me. That sounded exactly like my mom. Exactly. I turned back to search for her. My eyes looking through the lines of slot machines and people working and I found her. Tears started falling from my eyes. I turned back to find the lady that helped me. She looked at me in confusion and worry. "That.. that's my mom. My mom is over there." I got out through my tears. Her jaw dropped and she grabbed my hand and ran me over to where I had pointed before. Once I got there I had to make sure I had the right person and maybe she just looked and sounded like my mom. I tapped the womans shoulder and she turned around. I couldn't handle myself. I was balling and the women who helped me before spoke up. "This girl, her name is Karen, and she had been kidnapped and escaped and I was helping her and she heard your voice I guess and reconized you as her mom." I looked up when she finished and the woman was in shock. Great, I had the wrong person. I gathered myself toghether and tried to talk. I saw the man next to her and it looked just like the boyfriend my mom had before I got taken. "Are you Carol?" I asked shakily. She nodded. "And.. you're Will?" And with that I heard her scream. "Oh my god Karen!" I knew it was my mom. She grabbed me in the biggest hug ever and we both sat there crying our hearts out. I couldn't believe it. I was now safe. I was actually safe, I could go home tomorrow and get my phone and call my friends and be with my bestfriend who I missed so much. I could see my dad and my brother and everyone and everyone could be happy I could live a normal life again.
"I'm sorry to break up this truly wonderful moment but are you two staying the night? or would you like a room or something?" The lady asked.
"No, we have a room, but thank you so much for helping out my daughter." My mom said. I didn't care that I didn't know the lady, I went up to her and hugged her tight. "Thank you so much for helping me. I couldn't thank you enough. You brought me my family back." I said to her and she began to cry. We all cried, right there, in the middle of a bunch of people gambling. The lady soon left and we started to walk up the hotel rooms. The only time they got a hotel room was when they got free tickets to concerts. The must have been at a concert or something.
We got to the hotel room and I began to tell them everything. After I was done, my mom was hysterical. She told me how everyone had been looking for me and people from school who she had never seen before had come over and brought flowers and how everyone in town looked for me for about a year and then they all gave up. "Mom, do you still have my phone? Did you ever get it back?" I asked after she finished crying alittle. "Yes, your friend brought it too the police but they couldn't find a use for it so I just kept it incase you ever came back."
"Do you have a laptop or something?" I asked.
"Yes I brought mine, here use it." She said. I took it gratefully and turned it on. I opened a web brower and went straight on twitter. It was two years later.. did people still use twitter? I signed on and the first thing I saw was my friend. My bestfriend, who I haven't seen in two years. Yes. People were still using twitter. I hesitated but then posted a status.
