Dear Mr. Bode,
We have received intelligence that the death eaters are planning to target you. Please stay away from those you do not trust or have suspicions about. It would be best if you avoided being completely alone or in small crowds-they're after something that's kept in your department.
Warn your co-workers, if necessary. It's possible that they will be targeted instead.
Sorry.
OOTPDeciding to keep it as vague as she possibly could, Mira finished the letter before rushing from the room.
"Remus!" she cried. "Remus! Can I borrow your owl?" He popped his head around the kitchen door and nodded, gesturing for her to enter the kitchen. Upon walking through the door, she was startled to find there was another order meeting happening. Moody scowled at her entry, but didn't say anything as she followed Remus quietly to the owl sat on top of the fridge.
"Who are you sending a letter to?" he asked curiously, trying to catch a glimpse of the name scrawled on the envelope. Mira discreetly turned it away from him, taking the owl and trying to leave the room once more.
"Miss Harfield, before you leave we would like to ask you a few questions." she stopped her hasty retreat at Dumbledore's words, instead slowly turning around.
"Could I send the letter quickly?" Dumbledore gestured to the kitchen window. Sighing, Mira approached it before attaching the letter to the owl's leg and holding her close to her face.
"It's for Boderick Bode, Department of mysteries in the Ministry of Magic. No one else, understand?" She hardly heard herself she said it that quietly. The owl hooted before taking flight and Sirius approached, shutting the window and pushing her into a chair beside Tonks. The woman smiled comfortingly at her.
"We already know what happened the other day, Mira." Mrs. Weasley began warmly. "And most of us trust you." She sent a scowl at Moody and a couple of other members. Mira shifted uncomfortably under their scrutinising glares.
"Moody mentioned something strange-"
"How did you know our names?" Mad-eye demanded. Mira flinched slightly.
Oh, I'm from the future in which you're all a series of popular fictional characters. I'm a huge fan, by the way.
Yeah, no. She'd be sent instantly to St. Mungos and spend her days beside Gilderoy Lockhart and Frank and Alice Longbottom. And, if he didn't heed her warning, Boderick Bode-until his death, that is. She'd have to keep an eye on the papers for if he was taken in and send a warning letter...
Suddenly very aware for the group of people anxiously awaiting an answer, she opened her mouth. Nothing came out. She didn't have an answer that she could tell them.
"Don't make us get the veritaserum." Snape sneered. She sent a scalding glare in his direction. Dumbledore cleared his throat, making both parties stand down. Mira ducked her head and gulped.
If she couldn't come up with a valid answer, she would instantly be marked as suspicious-probably have her memory wiped-and get kicked out of Grimmauld.
"I-I-um-" those that had been sticking up for her were now wary, everyone besides Mr and Mrs Weasley, Tonks, Remus, Sirius and Dumbledore had their eyes fixed on her with distrust.
"You were positive you were a muggle." Moody stated gruffly, his blue eye in the back of his head. She shuddered at the sight of it as it swung back to look at her and cleared her throat slightly.
"I-um, can't tell you." she admitted truthfully. "You wouldn't believe me." She met eyes with Dumbledore and instantly lowered her gaze to her hands once more. "And I want as less people knowing as possible-if it gets out-"
"If what gets out?" Mad-eye snapped, banging his hand on the table. She flinched slightly before glaring back at him just as angrily.
"Do you really think I'd go to the death eaters after they murdered my parents and tried to get me too?" her voice got higher-pitched toward the end in her frustration. The room fell silent as Snape leaned forward, something in his eyes she couldn't read as he studied her.
"Albus." he suddenly said. "Maybe with a-smaller-audience, she'd be willing to say." She stared at him in bewilderment-he was sticking up for her?-and so were the other members of the Order. She knew that they didn't quite trust him themselves; she knew better. He was possibly one of the most trustworthy people there.
"Maybe so-Alastor? Would you like to stay?" The rest of the members, though reluctantly, rose from their seats and left the room. Mira caught a flash of an extendable ear being hauled up quickly before the door shut once more. There were only four people in the room. Her, Dumbledore, Mad-eye and Snape. She frowned slightly, finding herself wishing for Sirius or Remus to have stayed before changing her mind. The less people knew, the better it would be for everyone. She took a deep breath.
"Look, before we begin-you're probably not going to believe me, it really is insane-"
"Spit it out, Harfield." Apparently Snape wasn't going to be as nice to her as she thought. She scowled before biting her lip.
"Um-well, IthinkIkindamaybecamebackintime." she blurted. Snape blinked, oblivious to what she said. Moody narrowed his eyes, lip curling. Dumbledore only smiled.
"It's what I thought." He announced, eyes calculating. He nodded in her direction before turning to the other two.
"Miss Harfield here is from the future."
"Impossible." Moody instantly growled. Snape's eyes widened slightly before settling on her once more and an impassive look crossed his face. Dumbledore glanced at her, almost challenging her to prove it to him.
"Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody. You lost the bit of your nose to Barty Crouch Jr. and Evan Rosier when you went to arrest them for muggle torture. You personally killed Evan Rosier."
"Anyone could know that." Moody countered gruffly, leaning back in his chair and frowning lopsidedly, hand gripping his wand tightly.
"When you were supposed to be teaching at Hogwarts, you were locked in the fourth compartment of your rare seven compartment trunk, only kept alive because Crouch needed your hair and to ask you of your habits so he could impersonate you believably. They attacked you in your own home. Ever since then, your...false eye thingy has had a tendency to stick in place, so you have to clean it in water to loosen it up." She really hoped that was enough, because besides his death she didn't know much more about him. He closed his mouth, both eyes fixed on her. "I know how you die too-if you want to know that?"
"Enough." Snape snarled. She glanced at him, his gaunt face was pale as he stared at her from his coal-coloured eyes. "Do you know?"
"K-know wha-"
"You know what."
"Yes. I know lots Severus-" She looked around at the three dead men all staring at her before closing her eyes and clearing her throat when her throat refused to make a noise. "And, I'm going to stop it. I'm going to-to finish it so that you guys don't have to-"
"Wonderful." Dumbledore smiled, sweeping to the fireplace. "I trust you know what you need to do?" She stared at him for a few moments before nodding and he grinned once more before disappearing into the fireplace.
"Welcome to the Order, kid." Moody mumbled, reaching his hand across the table. She shook it firmly, knowing that this was her one shot to truly make a difference.
She hadn't lied-she had spent her past day thinking about how much she hated the snake like man and his horcruxes. She knew where they were, she knew how to destroy them. All she had to do was actually do the task-which was easier said than done. But, it was easier her going alone than it was for Harry, Ron and Hermione to become fugitives and almost die multiple times.
Before she knew what was happening, Snape had stood up and stormed from the room. Anger was etched on his face, but she could see fear in his eyes clearly shining through. The rest of the Order had filed back in, clearly wary, but upon Moody's clear trust of the girl they had relaxed slightly.
"This is good. We have someone to keep an eye on Potter besides the teachers." she heard someone say-she vaguely registered the voice as Kingsley.
"She's too young to be an Order member!" She heard Remus argue back angrily. "We've denied Fred and George joining and she's younger than they are!"
"Do you really think Voldemort would care how young his followers are?" Moody asked quietly, staring at the man. A few members flinched, one woman yelped and fell off her chair, but eventually it was Arthur that broke the silence, his voice hard.
"She can't even cast spells out of the castle-she'd be of no use."
"Ouch, Mr. Weasley. That one hurt." Mira joked, but he was right. She couldn't go fight. She couldn't do anything-how could she hope to go get horcruxes when she wasn't allowed to even cast a simple shield spell?
"Actually," a deep voice resonated around the kitchen. They all turned to Kingsley curiously. "I don't think that's quite true. Under the request of Dumbledore, when we found Harfield I was asked to remove any underage magic from her record, but there was none there." He paused for a moment. "She doesn't even have a record, it turns out. So there's nothing for the underage magic to report to-so she wont get caught." The room sat in a stunned silence. Mira herself was shocked. Surely, something would have been detected?
"Its too dangerous." Molly Weasley finally spoke up. "She's just a kid-"
"And she's also sat right here." Tonks said loudly. "Why don't you ask her about all of this?" Being the youngest member of the Order prior to Mia, Tonks knew what it was like to be ignored and babied just because of her age. But she also knew how much individuals had to offer-she was all for Mira being around more. They had quickly bonded and become fast friends; despite the lasting slight ache from the jinx she was hit with. All eyes turned to her and she quickly had to come up with an answer.
"Um, I appreciate the concern-" she began. Those opposing her joining instantly began to protest. "But. I can help." She spoke louder and firmer. In the few days she had been around her they hadn't ever seen her raise her voice, not even with the twins. "Really. I know what I'm on about-"
"You've casted two proper spells in your life." Remus retorted. Mira shrugged.
"And? I'm going to Hogwarts-and besides, strength isn't always in magic. Knowledge is more powerful than any of you think."
"I have no idea what Albus was thinking putting this idea in your head-"
"It wasn't Albus, Molly. It was me." Moody said over the agreeing voices. Everyone fell quiet once more. Mira cleared her throat.
"You might not believe it, or think that I'm just a naïve kid desperate to run into battle, but I really do know how to kill him once and for all."
"He can come back," someone pointed out. She recognised this man as Bill Weasley, the oldest child of the Weasley parents. She had forgotten he came back this summer, closer to home to help the Order and to help Fleur eemprove 'er Eenglish. She could certainly see his resemblance to the twins, Ron and Ginny. "He's come back once before."
"Well...he's got a few...things. Weapons, you could call them. Destroy them, and you destroy him for good. And I know exactly where they all are." This caused uproar. Members were yelling at her, yelling at each other for yelling at her, yelling at each other for yelling at each other. Mira shrank back,
"SHUT IT!" Sirius bellowed, wand pointed at his throat. Everyone instantly quietened down, still angry but looked at him.
"Mira, does Dumbledore know this?" he asked.
"Yeah, but he wants me to sort it." Heads snapped to her. Moody grumbled something but agreed with her all the same.
"What?" Tonks demanded, her voice shrill. Mira winced slightly.
"It's either me, or Harry. And let me tell you, his way is no where near as precise or planned out. Sirius, Remus, you know the boy! Tell them; he's reckless and he's on his way to getting himself killed!" Despite the pair not wanting any of the teens dragged into the mess; they certainly had to agree. As much had been clear since his first year-running off into the forbidden corridor instead of trying to get a teachers attention; running off into the Chamber of Secrets instead of trying to get a teachers attention; running after a big black hellhound because it had his friend instead of trying to get a teachers attention.
"Well then. It's settled." Kingsley said in a deep voice, smiling over at her. She smiled back nervously. No one said anything else until there was a small knock on the door.
"Mum? Hermione's here." Ron's voice floated through the door. The meeting was hastily ended, Mira whisked off to go meet the new arrival before she could protest.
