Chapter 4
An attempt on my life.
Justin Burgundy
We were sitting down in the ship's cafeteria having lunch the day after Leo said his story. I still couldn’t get over what he had told me, especially the fact that he was in the royal bloodline. After he was finished telling me the story yesterday, both of us went to sleep leaving me to process everything he had told me, and here we are the next day.
He looked up with a miserable expression. Obviously, remembering his family brings great sadness to him. "Thank you Justin, I really needed to tell someone. It was practically killing me. That is why I came here. I want to find out as much as possible about the death of my family and I just might be able to do that inside this ship."
"Hey, look at the bright side." I tried to cheer him up. "At least you don’t know your goal, and that makes things easier."
He said yesterday that he didn’t hear his goal. It's highly unlikely that when a person is tainted he is not told his goal, so I'm guessing Leo's purpose is either too awful or he wants it to be kept a secret. I won't judge him for that though because I don’t blame him.
"What is your goal Justin?" Leo asked.
"Well mine makes no sense to me. My goal is to 'Aid ingenuity.'"
"I heard that most guardians like to mess with their tainted by giving them riddles. It's supposed to test their worthiness or something. When the time comes, I'm sure you'll figure it out… and a word of friendly advice: don’t go giving your goal to anyone, it is the key to your survival.”
"Maybe you're right."
Suddenly, the alarms went off and speakers started giving instructions. "All soldiers man your positions. Prisoner 112 has escaped. All soldiers man your positions. Prisoner 112 has escaped."
As it kept repeating that statement Leo and I followed the other soldiers, not really knowing where to go. While we were walking, Leo stopped abruptly.
"What's wrong, kid?"
"I feel something strange. And don’t call me kid!"
He looked to his right at a ominously dark path, and ran towards it. I followed him, knowing I didn't have any other choice. I never saw this hallway before. It was quite long. After a few minutes or so, we saw a ladder leading to the ceiling so naturally we had to climb it.
"What exactly did you 'feel'?" I questioned.
"Just shut up and follow me."
When we opened the trap door, we ended up on the roof of the craft.
“I should probably mention that I'm kind of afraid of heights." I admitted.
I had this really bad experience with heights before. Let's just say, I was stuck in a see-through elevator at the highest floor of a building for hours. I was four.
"Just come on, if anyone should be afraid of heights it should be me." He insisted.
He had a point, I mean falling out a window must be traumatizing. I tried not to shake while standing on the roof. The wind was buffeting my face, and I kept having images of it pushing me off the roof.
Leo closed his eyes and did that aura thing he does.
"There is someone here!"
