Amy heaved a heavy sighed as she clears up her shelves inside her office. Today was her last day working here in UCLA, later that week she was informed that she will be the head of the research team that will be heading to Caltech for a joint project by the two prominent institution.
She was anxious about the changes that will happen in the next couple of days, the changes in her environment, routines and workspace which she was excited about because they were told that Caltech acquired the state of the art equipments for their research facilities. But one thing that makes her really worried is that the people she will be working with. Sure that she is used to be around with mean workmates, but this one will be new.
Being the head of the research team that represents their institution added up in the facrors that heightened her anxiety, not that she's not confident but in this situation there will be no room for miscalculations and errors, they can't afford to fail since their credibility as a neuroscientist is at stake.
All these thoughts where interrupted when her phone vibrated and displayed a message coming from the university's president telling that their team will leave the day after tomorrow.
She let out a sigh, good thing that most of her belongings were in her storage near her apartment. She will not have a hardtime gathering the things needed for her trip and the books she will be needing to relieve her from stress and loneliness.
Aside from the pressure in her work, the agreement she made with her mother years ago constantly bugging her, she had to go on a date at least once a month but neither one of them captured her interest. Those men she have met never made her feel that they're intellectually equal.
She already lost her interest in dating and believed that she'll be alone forever with her lab monkeys.
"Would I be able to meet someone there? Maybe someone that could share science stuff with me?" she asked to herself, while closing the last box of her things from her office.
She headed to the door, with one last look to the room she had been for many years, she turned off the lights and gently shut the door and somehow looking forward to the adventure that awaits her.
* I've read from several fanfics that UCLA was commonly used as Amy's former workplace and Caltech is where she was re-assigned to work on a research project, so I did a research on those schools and yeah the title pertains to the institution's official team names and mascot.
