A room.

Two figures sat at a computer desk, their faces illuminated by the glowing screen flickering in front of them. The surrounding darkness seemed to be soaking into their very bones, for they sat with melancholic stature.

One figure sat hunched, her head held in her hands as she tugged at her hair and allowed warm, salty tears to pool in her lap. Another sat opposite her, head held low as she feebly placed a hand on the crying figure's shoulder. She could feel the tremors shaking through her tired body as she tried to hold in the tears.

"You don't have to do this," she quietly whispered. There was a moment's silence as the figure held her breath, anticipating the other's response.

"No," the trembling figure replied. She slowly rose her head and stared at her with eyes red from hours of crying. The happiness in those dark pools of brown had long but disappeared, and had been replaced by a swirling whirlwind of conflicting emotions. She suddenly spoke up again, her voice muffled in the blackness filling the small room: "I have to try..."

Drying her tears, the figure grinned with a smile that didn't quite reach her ears, and swivelled to face the glowing computer screen.

"For both our sake's."
