At the Tateyama house, Kido, Kano, Seto and Ayano were playing hide-and-seek when an unexpected thunderstorm came. Ayano had found Kano and Seto but couldn't find Kido. Apparently, she was hiding in their shed and when she heard the clap of thunder, she crawled into a ball and accidentally activated her Eyes."Th-thunder....." Kido whimpered endlessly. Another loud clap of thunder was heard and Kido covered her ears.
"Tsubomi! Where are you?" Ayano's voice was heard. Kido couldn't hear her or Seto's calls due to her hands over her ears. As Ayano's and Seto's calls faded, Kido saw the door open and Kano's figure show up.
"Sh-Shuuya....." Kido muttered. Kano stared at the place where she was and walked up to her.
"Hi, Tsubomi." He said and placed a hand over hers, deactivating her powers. Kido stared at him. "Nee-chan said this thunderstorm will end tomorrow morning." Kano informed.
"..." Kido was silent. Kano stood up and outstretched his hand.
"C'mon. Let's go back inside." He said. Kido smiled and stood up. Kano grabbed a nearby umbrella and they ran back inside the house sheltered by it.
'Don't worry, Tsubomi. I will keep the promise I told you when we were still at the orphanage. I'll never lose sight of you.' Kano thought as they entered the house.
years later
There he goes again. The lying deceiver flirting with all the girls in the mekakushi dan for the billionth time. The girls in the dan thought Kano was just bored but Kido thought otherwise. Kano just did that to make them all think he's fine and unhurt. He's hiding his feelings from them all. As the sun set and the dan grew tired, everyone raced upstairs to their bedrooms to sleep. Kano stayed up on his late night walks and tonight was the night Kido followed him.
Kano had been walking for a while now and Kido continued to follow him, making herself as less noticable as possible. Kano stopped walking at a park bench and sat down on it. He sighed.
"I know you're there, danchou~," He smiled. Kido sighed.
"You know me too well, then." She said once she deactivated her Eyes. She sat beside him.
"What made you follow me? Think you'd miss me that much?" Kano teased.
"I just think you're hiding something. And I need to know what. I know you were there when onee-chan committed suicide." Kido closed her eyes. Kano's eyes widened but then returned back to normal and smiled that fake smile of his. Kido sighed again.
"Ask me anything you want." Kano said.
"Can you take your mask off?" Kido asked. Kano froze again. He sighed and Kido felt his mask slowly slip off. His real face was out and Kido's eyes widened. All the tears Kano has hidden from them were the tears he was crying now. Kano had his eyes closed as the tears kept sliding down his cheeks.
"Kano...I can see through your lies whether or not you're wearing that mask of yours. Just as you can while I'm invisible." Kido said as she caressed his wet cheek. Kano sighed.
"I know." He muttered.
"Shuuya, you promised to never leave me, right? Now, I'm making a new one. Shuuya Kano, I promise to always see your true emotions and feeling even when others can't. Yubikiri genman." Kido smiled as tears started to fall from her eyes too. "I don't care if I get hurt because of it. Kousuke and I are going through some tough times too, but we can't compare them with yours. Just as you said to me before. Your happiness is my happiness, Shuuya."
Kano stared at her and smiled. "Thank you, Tsubomi. For everything." He said and planted a soft kiss on Kido's cheek. Kido blushed softly but smiled.
"Yubikiri genman?" She asked, holding up her pinky.
"Yubikiri genman." Kano intertwined his pinky with hers.
"I promise I won't lose sight of you even with your power on, Tsubomi." Kano smiled the sincere smile he only showed Kido.
"I promise I'll always see through your lies and mask, Shuuya." Kido replied with a grin.
