"So, your dad just randomly punched you when you arrived home?" I asked very confused.
"It's not called home if he's there," he answered with tears at the brink of his eyes.
"I don't understand your mom. She still wants him after he has raped and hurt her."
"My mom is very stupid and I don't know why I'm still living with her."
"You love her, dude; that's why."
"Unfortunately, your correct. I also want to protect her from my father because he almost killed me and I know he can do that to my mom because she's vulnerable."
"Why'd you go away then?"
"After he punched me, I ran inside my room and ignored my mom's pleading for me to open the door. I called the cops and I gave him away; my mom hated me after doing that and she said I was a worthless son and she told me to go away." He started sobbing infront of me and I couldn't do anything but rub his shoulders awkwardly.
"My mom and I are your family." I whispered to him and he nodded with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"Mom!" I called out.
"In the kitchen, honey!"
Natt and I walked to her. My mom knows Natt's family issues. Concerned etched out on her face as she took in Natt's bruised face. I gave her a knowing look and she understood it.
"You can stay as long as you want, Natt." She said with a welcoming smile.
"Thank you, Mrs. Colderson," he said with appreciation.
"Please don't call me that. It makes me sound so old. Just call me Thess,"
"Okay," Natt replied as a real smile formed in his face.
"We need to fix your face," I said.
"Yeah, we should. This-" he said as he's pointing at his face, "is the only thing I'm thanking my dad for. It's the only beautiful thing he has done to me and my mother." He said with an arrogant smile. "I know you agree with me, Max."
"Sometimes I wonder if my son is straight."
"Mom, Of course I am!" I glared at Natt who was smirking at me.
"Let's fix your beautiful face, Natt"
"See? Even your mother agrees that I have a beautiful face. Thank you, Thess."
"Well, of course nothing will be more beautiful than my son's face." My mom smiled at me and rubbed my back.
I jut my tongue at Natt and I saw him smile back with a hint of sadness in his eyes.
"I wish my mother will tell me that too. I wish she wasn't stupid. I wish she loves me-" My mom didn't let him finish as she engulfed him in a bear hug. He sobbed in my mother's hug and I felt pity for him.
"Your mother loves you, Natt. How could she not? You're a great man!" My mom comforted him as he kept sobbing in her hug.

My mom, together with Natt and I, went to the mall to buy a foldable bed where Natt can stay.
"Thess, I swear you don't have to do this for me. I could just crash in the sofa." He said while he was clearly hesitant to ask my mom for anymore favors.
My mom was getting annoyed by him and his pleadings. My mom gave me a look that says 'tell him it's okay because I would strangle him if he doesn't shut up'
