Personally, I feel like the air element is seriously underestimated. While other wielders of this element ,are hesitant to use it; that might be its appeal. As in a moment of dire need, no-one will think it as any use but to fly around,- I beg to differ. This rumor, is purposely orchestrated. I'd say that the Air element is actually one of the most forceful and strategic elements there is. For example, you could manipulate just about any other element. Fire needs oxygen to live, (I will never forget the time I challenged Inferno to a Guardians Match and his fire would not come out! Story short I hate that guy, and he hates me.) Water needs oxygen or else it turns into a bunch of hydrogen (Or in layman's terms, it would explode in your face- Elizabeth found this out the hard way...) For Earth, I could just fly up above the attacker. One could also; suffocate people, create vacuums, or even summon the winds to do their bidding!
However, the Wind has a price for its benefits. The trouble is it's unpredictability and perfidious nature. The more arduous an attempt is, the more ¨on the rocks¨ the result will be. But today of all possible days, I learned that by using air to support another's life, takes an ultimate toll.
As the grand master of winds, I commanded the blasts to trail us, to throw off our tracks and increase speed. As I'm writing this, I must mention the boy is putting up quite a fight, although his pulse is fluctuating, he may make it. The poor boy (I'm assuming his name is Brayden) looked pale, and the color of his eyes once that of a crisp autumn leaf, were now turning to that of an ashen cloud. Despite seeing the soldier before being burnt by his skin, Bindi helped put the boy on my lap so I could warm him with whatever body heat I could. My breastplate, which he was leaning on probably didn't help him warm up, so I wrapped my cloak around him. After that trying to warm him up as best as I could, while moving on a horse.
In moments like this, I try and appreciate the beauty of the world to balance out internal stress. This has led to some very interesting encounters, namely one where my fiancée and I were hiking in the woods, when we encountered a few dryads and fairies (Or familiars to be politically correct.) who seemed to be protesting for something. It turned out that they were on a lunch break, so we didn't see their tiny picket signs, and accidentally crushed them... With our luck, the head of the group came right in time to see us leaving the damage we left, and wouldn't have it, so they decided to give us retribution by making us cough, every other sentence for a WEEK. That certainly made meetings more amusing for Witch and Barath at least... Needless to say, I haven't set foot in that part of the wind kingdom for a while. I try to be a good leader to my people, but sometimes, I can't accommodate all their needs. But one can certainly try.
Most of the time, however, when these expeditions don't go haywire; I'll try and escape my troubles, by immersing myself in the surroundings, and lose myself in the incredible, bigger picture. Smaller, and ever so insignificant compared to everything the world is. Sometimes, I'll look up to the stars, and try to reach for whatevers out there. I could certainly try to fly up there, but that would spoil the mystery wouldn't it? Sometimes I wonder if the sort of mystery stuff, the stars are made of is what drives us to do what we do.
Some seem to do things out of love, hate, fear or lust. For me, I'm just trying to do what's right, and what will help people the people of Altered. Albeit, I've made a lot of mistakes in doing so. So far, my biggest one is betraying those I should have stood up for, and acting apathetic around certain people, just to seem important to the world. I guess with that logic, fear of being forgotten drives me to do what I do.
Despite these troubling thoughts, I should focus my attention on the boy, and do whatever it takes to make sure he's alright. In a weird way, he kind of reminds me of the Wind element, undaunted by something. In this case, he stands fearless to impending death. He seems like the type of person who puts his head up high, and turns his back to empty threats. Maybe I could learn something from him, then again, maybe not.
In the distance, the high rise that is the Acropolis of the Wind Kingdom, (Or my personal favorite, Castle'De'Voice) is the first thing you would notice. Even though time is of the essence, my mind flutters to the the grand palace. With its spires cutting high into the clouds, and many rooms and balconies containing all sorts of excitements, I could only dream of as a kid. But as I've once heard from a good friend ,¨These temples and towers are created by magic, to meet a Guardian's appeal. The magic sees your deepest and truest desires than, builds on it.¨
As I rush to the gates a look of terror escapes the usual calm demeanor of the knight's faces.
(Hi! Thanks for reading this, it means a lot to me!)
¨There was a crooked man,
Who walked a crooked mile.
He found a crooked sixpence
Upon a crooked stile.
He bought a crooked cat
Who caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a
Crooked little house.¨ - John Taylor
