"You are not Candice White. I am."
Candice laughed. Of all the ridiculous things that had happened, this took the hat. Eva claiming that she's her. She look towards Eric and David, pointing at Eva, "seriously? Can't someone tell that she's crazy?"
Eva laughed and took a step towards her and pressing her face close. "Poor Candice," she cooed, sending a chill down Candice's spine. "You have no idea that you are nothing."
"Get off me!" Candice screeched and took a step back. Eva was clearly delusional and needed to be sent to a mental hospital.
"I know you think that the wording of the will was weird. Haven't you stop to consider why?" Eva paced in front of her, obviously delighted in telling Candice this. "Daddy was protecting me all this time, his real princess. He left a way for me to get my inheritance from you," Eva said, her hands shaking as she glared at Candice. "You are nothing but a decoy to keep me safe."
Candice swallowed hard and shook her head. She stumbled back until her legs hit the cabinet. She was freaking Candice White and most certainly not a decoy. Eva smiled and grabbed something off the table. Candice immediately recognized her parents' handwriting in a few sheets and one was clearly a document.
"Apparently we were being targeted by a Mexican gang and they had already tried to kidnap me," Eva said and her eyes glanced at Benson. Benson had been with the family for generations, Candice remembered suddenly. He could tell her whether all this is true! "So they knew the best way to keep me safe is to send me away. But that's not good enough; they have to make it look like I was still here. That way, no one will ever know."
With a smug smile, Eva handed the letters to Candice. "And before you get any idea, this is just a photocopy," she added with a chirp.
Dear daughter,
We know we can never make up for what we did to you, but we hope that you will understand why we did it. You are a White, the only living heiress of our legacy and the White Jewelry. Your birthright is to be our princess, but your life is more important to us than that.
On your first birthday, an attempt was made at your life. Your grandfather, he had made some mistakes and we are being targeted by a Mexican cartel. People have already died because of them and nothing will ever satisfy them. The only way we can keep you safe is to make sure that you aren't on their radar anymore.
The Goodmans are good friends of ours. They'll take care of you and better yet you'll have a brother. Since you are reading this, it must mean that you are 16. I know most girls get a car, the only thing we can give you is the truth and a promise that you'll get everything back.
If we are able to figure everything out, we'll come find you. But if we died, we have left a will that will let you get it all back. It won't be easy, but if you don't have what it takes to do that, then you won't have what it takes to take over. Either way, you won't have to worry about your life. The Goodmans have money for your college and we have bonds under your name that will let you live comfortably.
The letter then went into explaining what to do about the will in detail. Candice didn't remember signing something for Eva, but she did sign several documents when she was with David. He betrayed her. She took a deep breath and skipped to the end of the letter.
Whether your name is Candice or Eva, you are our daughter by blood. We know it doesn't mean much but know that there isn't a day when we are not thinking about you.
