In the beginning, Mayzie was in Florida on vacation. She and her mother were visiting her younger sister Nicole who lived with her father. Mayzie and her mother were actually going to move to Florida to be closer to Nicole and start over after the terrible past they had finally escaped, but everything changed the night she was stood up by her date.
You see, Mayzie was looking for a guy to spend time with before she moved to Florida. She didn't want to look at guys in her home town of Evansville Indiana if she wasn't going to live there much longer, but it turns out she was looking through guys in Florida and back home.
The night Mayzie was stood up, she was scrolling through Tinder, liking every guy who had a dog in their picture. One boy in particular messaged her, Knox. The message read "I'll let you try to fight me while drunk". She laughed and read the message to her mom, who giggled with her. "Oh really?" Mayzie replied. She was curious what his response would be.
"Yeah, I think it would be cute." "Oh! He thinks I'm cute?" She thought. Her face was red even though nobody could even see her. The two talked all night, conversations about everything under the sun, and then he asked when they could meet. Mayzie explained she was on vacation and they made plans for the following Saturday after she got home.
