The many people around could not stop staring at my blue and gold tail and I was getting rather annoyed. I have been trapped in this aquatic prison for about two months now and it seems as though the number of people that come to see me just keeps growing and growing.
The tank that I'm in has two dolphins, Nico and Sea or Joy and Hope as the people named them. They are pretty nice, but I know Sea should not be here as I have met her before, in the open ocean. She was much smaller, but I know it is her in here with me. One of the perks of having this tail where my legs should be is I can talk to dolphins as if I were one. Nico is only a year older than Sea and is very energetic and playful towards pretty much anything. He is quite fond of the keeps whilst the only thing me and sea want is out of here.
I used to have a life before I was stuck here, before I became eye candy for people who think it's okay to keep a sixteen year old girl in a tank for amusement. I used to live by my two best friends, Liv and Crystal. They have tails just like I do, only I covered for them so they are still happy and can frolic in the ocean as they please. This is the consequence of trusting the wrong people with a secret as big as this one.
"Nikki! Feeding time!" A person calls to me. My name isn't even Nikki, its Kate, but they don't seem to care. I let out a watery sigh and swim towards the surface to collect the food from one of the keepers. When I surface he steps back a little. He is definitely a new worker here, because I have never seen his face before.
"What?" I snap at him, sitting up on my rock. The tip of my tail still dangles in the water as I situate myself as comfortably as I can.
"It's just, you look so...Human." He says, handing me a plate full of lobster. I roll my blue eyes at him.
"Because I am." I bite into my meal happily as its bene over ten hours since I've eaten anything. He looks at me with a confused expression.
"No, you're not." He flips his red hair out of his face. I quickly eat the rest of my food and throw the plate at him. If he doesn't believe me, I will show him.
It takes a few minutes for me to get myself completely out of the water on laying on the rock, but I accomplish it.
"I'm pretty sure I know whether or not I am human, thank you." I say just as bubbles form around my tail and legs appear. I stand up with a wobble and face him. He scans me up and down with amusement and shock. I now wear a shell bikini and my blonde hair flows down to my middle back.
"They think just because I happen to grow a tell when wet that they can lock me up with dolphins and use me for show. But what am I doing wasting my breath with you?" I shake my head and dive into the water. Sea does a front flip for a greeting.
"Why do you look so angry?" She asks, looking up at the guy as he stares at us from above.
"Because, he said I wasn't a human." I flick my tail in anger.
"In some ways are a human, in others, you are not." She points her nose toward my tail. I shake my head and swim down toward one of the glass walls that are being cleaned. The same guy is somehow there, scrubbing at the glass. Once he notices me staring, his scrubbing immediately stops. I thought it was because of me, but he starts running toward someone who has broken into the aquarium, my mother. I quickly swim right up to the glass and place both hands on it.
She angrily shoves him to the side and knocks him down before running up to the glass and freezing at the sight of me. I lay my forehead on it and watery tears escape me. This is the first time I have seen her since I was taken away. She slowly walks toward the glass, the man frozen at our reactions to each other. Tears flow down her cheeks as she looks at me through the glass and puts her hands over mine.
"I love you." I mouth to her. She answers me back with 'I love you too'. Anger suddenly consumes me, and I swim away from her as far and fast as I can and flip myself around to face the glass once more.
"Nico, Sea, get to the other side of the water barrier so you don't get sucked out!" I shout towards them faster than I have ever swam before and ready my tail to bang into the glass. They jump out of the way only seconds before I make contact with a loud 'CRASH!'
A while back...
* * *
"Wake up!" My brother shouts in my ear.
"Why!" I say angrily, rubbing my tired eyes. He laughs and runs off. You have got to be kdding me. Its five A.M.. In the frist day of summer. That little brat. He is only ten is turning out like one of those highschool guys. Stupid. I am five years older, and a whole lot smarter too. After I rearange my bed i finally drift back off to sleep.
The next morning i wake up around 9:00 . First thing i do is tackle MIke to the ground, but a shout from my mom stops us.
"Kate, Crystal called." She says, handing me the phone. I dial in her number.
"Hey!" She seems a little too excited for a morning.
"Hi." I say.
"Okay, miss I-just-got-up, want to go boating with me and Olivia?" She asks.
"Sure." I say.
"Be there in ten." She says. What? Ten minutes. Great. After i quickly tell mom i hurry off to my room and grab my Bikini and and throw it on. I then grab a towel and rub some sunscreen on. As soon as im done, Crystal Pulls in, a red speed boat on her trailer. She just got her licence and her parents already got her a new truck. It is a Chevy, Of course. I have my permit, but im not old enough to get my licence yet.
"Hurry up, we want to go out to sea today!" She says. Really? How far is she planning to take us out this time? Last time we went we were lost at sea. If it happens again im ganna hurt this girl. All of our parents are starting to lose their patience with us too. The ride to the boat launch is only about ten minutes away, so we get there in no time. After we get the boat in the water i get a good look at Olivia. Where is her Swimsuit?
"Liv. You are not going boating in that are you?" I ask pointing to her T-shirt and shorts. She shakes her head, stripping off her clothes, revealing a stunning Aqua colored Bikini. Beautiful. Mine is Aqua colored with gold. Crystal's is Pink and aquaish purple. Apaently we all must love Aqua.
I open the cooler to find chips, sandchiches, and an unpleasent sight of alcohol. I have the feeling we are going to be getting into some trouble, again. Last time it didn't involve drinks, but it was still pretty bad. I sit back as Crystal turns the boat on, and we take off with a very fast speed that pushes us all back a little bit because it was so sudden.
