The streets were damp and dark, a reminder of the rain that never seemed far away. For once the moon shone over the empty streets but thunder could be heard on the horizon. The city’s building stood tall and looked empty but these buildings were home to many people though they didn’t feel like homes. The buildings were grey with no life and stood to attention keeping the people in like a city wide prison instead of a community.
Searchlights swept the streets illuminating the desolate alleys and making each shadow on each object move in sync with perfect uniformed timing like an army for the prison city. This night a new shadow had
joined their ranks but it moved independent of its brethren. Slowly crouching as if it were waiting to pounce before suddenly darting away as searchlights reached its former position. This spectre was no ghost but a young girl wearing heavy black clothing with a mask and hood covering her face so only her eyes and forehead could be seen.
Beads of sweat reflected the light of the searchlights, and strangely her eyes seemed to mirror the light reflecting it back with a blue tinge.
