"Terminal." That was the word the doctors had used to first describe Jason's diagnosis. Up until then, he and Sabrina thought they had it all figured out. Sabrina had graduated high school a year earlier, and after taking a year off to save up some money for college she was planning on applying to NYU in the fall, where Jason was about to start his 2nd year. They were about to celebrate their 4 year anniversary. It was strange, such a young couple together for that long. When they first got together, Sabrina was only 15, and Jason 16. Friends and family had their doubts, but they proved them wrong. It was all so exciting, it seemed like their future was finally starting to come together. Then came that 2:45 am phone call from Jason's mom. It all seemed to happen so quickly after that. The phone call, the speedy drive to the hospital, and the next day... the diagnosis. Slowly, Jason started to get worse and worse. And on June 29th at 3:29 pm, his heart finally stopped. Sabrina's world fell apart. How could she just lose him like that? Together for 4 years and suddenly torn apart. The day after it happened, Sabrina opened her front door to find a little white hatbox on her porch. She slowly picked it up and opened it, gasping at what she saw. Envelopes. Lots of them. All in that handwriting she'd grown to know and love. Jason's. Carefully examining the envelopes, she saw they all started with "Open when...." followed by different scenarios. The one at the top?
Open when...
It's the day after my death.
(I KNOW I've written this so so so poorly but I promise the story gets so much better. Tweet me @breecaylen if you've got any suggestions, I'd love to hear :)
