Self Destruct: A Niall Horan Fanfiction

I'm Afraid

It was around midnight when Niall stared out the window of the current hotel they were staying at. He watched as the highway lit up in all sorts of colors just like the city did. He wrapped arms around himself and continued to watch until he heard shuffling behind him. He snapped his head around and saw Zayn standing there.

"Mind if I join you?" Zayn asked. Niall shook is head and continued to look back out to the bright lights.

"What do you see?" Zayn questioned. Niall just kept looking around to see all the colors of the city. He heard laughter in some places, and he heard crying in others.

" I see happiness but, I'm watching the sadness." Niall finally said.

"Why do you want to see that? Just keep your eyes on the happy stuff."

"I want to know more about it though. I want to know what it wants." Niall said as of 'sadness' was something you could capture and destroy.

"Niall, you're talking like it's a monster. Sadness is a feeling."

"Then how does it creep up on people and take away their happiness? Why does it try to destroy you slowly? Why does it make life so much harder? It sounds like a monster to me." Niall said and if you think about it, he was right. Zayn was speechless but, he managed to say,

"Sometimes the scariest monsters can't be seen, Niall. It's all in here." Zayn gestured to his own head and then began to walk inside. Niall just sat on the ground and brought his knees to his chest. He continued to stare at the lights until yet again, he was interrupted by something. A voice this time saying,

"I don't understand why you're awake at this hour. Care to explain?" Liam said. Definitely his older brother. Niall turned his head to face Liam and didn't say a word. He just shook his head.

"Well then, if you don't tell me then I guess I'm going to have to guess!" Liam said as he sat next to Niall and looked at the lights with his little brother.

"Did you have a bad dream?" Liam began his list of questions.

Niall nodded.

"I have a bad dream everyday. Sometimes not even at night though." Niall said.

"What are they about?"

Niall shrugged and said,

"Everything. Fear, sadness, losing people,......losing myself."

"Niall, I can't control what's in your head but, I can assure you that if you let me, I can fight away all your fears, I could kill the sadness monster, I would help you keep people, and I will always find you if you lose yourself. Will you let me?" Liam said strongly but, Niall looked at Liam dead in the eyes and said,

"I'm afraid Liam."
