Turns out that the optimistic, overexcited, hyper superhero fanatic has a dark and miserable side. Has anyone else seen it? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that he hardly ever showed it in front of most of the people. Freddy literally opened up to me when he just met me yesterday. Am I this trustworthy?
When it was lunch, I started looking for Freddy to find him sitting on a table, alone again.
"Hey, Fred" I say as I take a seat next to him. He looked kind of surprised for some reason. "I-I'm sorry about what I said earlier today. I didn't really want t-to talk about it a-and I'm pretty sure you didn't have t-to know it-" he stuttered with a shaky voice due to nervousness.
"No! Please, don't-" I say with a sympathetic look on my face as I placed a hand on his shoulder to comfort him.
"Hey what's up" a voice said before a tray slams on the table next to us. We look up to see Billy, sitting on Freddy's other side.
"Billy..." Freddy said as he closed his eyes in disappointment. "What?" Billy said, mouth full of fries. "Bad timing. Very, very bad timing" Freddy said. "Like, I wanna tell her something. Alone please"
"Aw are you gonna tell her you love her and you're gonna kiss? like that would be c-" Billy smirked at him as he was still stuffing his mouth with fries. "BILLY!" he yelled at him.
The whole cafeteria turned to look at us. Billy was stunned, and so was I. "...leave" Freddy said lowly. Billy got up, took his tray, and walked away slowly. Freddy obviously freaked him out.
"Right. Uh" I say, still surprised. "Please, please don't apologize. You did the right thing. You know, I'm certain that you feel better now, so thank you"
"No, Gemma. Thank you. I've always wished to have somebody like you." He replied staring into my eyes. He looked so relieved by now. "I've actually never talked to anyone about this. Like, I've never been this deep."
"It's good to be deep sometimes. At least you feel better now... I kind of like the positive version of yourself better though" I say, trying to cheer him and I succeeded in doing so. "Oh, and what you said about yourself was wrong. So wrong. I know everyone would tell you this but I mean it. You're not invisible. I see you, Freeman." I say, looking him straight in the eyes.
I meant it. I really did. He wasn't invisible and even if he was, he didn't deserve it. As soon as I told him that, he tore his gaze off of me as his cheeks were in the color of crimson.
And for the first time in my whole lifetime, I made my crush happy.
"Freeman!" a voice was heard. We look over to see Brett, without his brother. "Ugh. Not again" I say as I shake my head. "You and your girl are gonna pay for what you did yesterday" he says as he approaches us. We were doomed at this point, there was nothing to protect us.
"I would've thought you were pretty if you didn't do what you did yesterday" Brett says. He was so close to me at that point. "Brett. Stop" Freddy said, playing with a loose thread on his pants and not looking at us. "Aw! You're gonna protect her? You can't. You're not good enough. You can't even-" he said as he was cut off by someone. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size? Or maybe even bigger" a man in a read suit said from across the cafeteria.
