Timeless
Missions in this part of space is always dangerous. Besides astroids and magnetic fields, there is the beast we were sent to study. My crew and I call it umbra. The black hole at the center of the galaxy. Our mission was simple enough, drop a drone and see if our new faster than light communications could get information out from past the event horizon.Needless to say, it didn't go as planned. The mission called for a space walk and a passing astroid, no bigger than my head, smashed the side of the ship. The force was enough to push us dangerously close too umbra. The ship, thank the fates, survived with minor damage. I on the other hand had the rope connection that held me and the ship together. If I didn't cut it in the time I did, the ship would have definitely been doomed.
I watched as I could see from the windows my crew members, and from my communication I heard Thier cries.
"We have to save you!"
"We'll come get you, just hold on"
"there has a way to get you back"
My response was simple. "No"
There was no way to get me back now, I would fall in and I can't risk them having the same fate. I looked back and sent a message "I'll send a message through the ftl communication. If it works then so be it, if it doesn't. Then advance" I smile and look towards my new home.
All the theories say that once I'm passed the horizon, I will see all of time, with out experienceing any of it. I wonder if I'll see how we evolve. And I wonder if there ever will be a way to get back...
I turn back to my ship, and give a final salute. I activate the ftl communication link. "Farewell, hope to see you" I cross the horizon. "Again soon"
The moment I cross, I see no ship. Instead, a start seeing the construction of a mega stucture. I can control the speed of which I see it simply by thinking. I slow it down and see what is building it. Men in suits, strange suits.
I turn on my communicator and ask "anyone there?" At that, I see the men look around confused. I speed time up in my head to see what happened.
As I do, I see them contact someone, and they nod. A display along the inner wall is projected. The simple message read "it worked tao" I smile at this. As I blink for my first time, time passes. When I reopen my eyes, a statue of me is where the message was projected.
Many species of humanoid and alien and spirits walked along the mega structure. I speed time up and see as more evolved being come and go. Then for the longest time, No one.
Finally after one more blink I see what is a person of light. It looks at my direction and gives me a smile before it disappears into a mist of light. Again, I speed time up and again more emptyness. The super structure falls inwards with me. But because it can't think, it simply falls into umbra.
I watch as all the stays fade out. As no light continues to come. And for what felt like forever, nothing but darkness. But when I begin to think again, I see lights fade in and out. Finally I feel myself fall back into umbra. My final moments. I look around and see the back of my, and then in the other direction, myself in the front.
I know my end is near. I look towards the emptyness of umbra and smile. My last action was to look at my watch. The second hand hadn't even ticked once with my entire time here. I turn my eyes back out to the empty universe one last time. And I see what I suppose, is the beginning of my universe. I see all the events leading up to that fateful moment. And the moment I see myself fall into umbra, I start to disappear. I hope this version of me has good time. Hopefully, he'll say more to them that I never did.
