Prologue

Centuries ago in a time of Great War between angels and demons, an angel and demon did something that was forever forbidden: they fell in love. The king demon and angel that reigned at that time were not pleased at all. Forces were sent after them in a desperate attempt to capture them but love is stronger than anything and the angel and demon had a child who was the very first larken. There love spread all over the world and many angels and demons worked together to get them to safety and away from the wrath of the kings. A few months after the child was born they were killed by the king’s guards.

Now centuries later we have our demons living in the underworld peacefully or maybe not peacefully as I could never begin to imagine a demon being peaceful, our angels who are certainly living peacefully in heaven and our larkens who live on earth.

We all know the story of demons and angels being immortal enemies for life but in this story angels and demons are more like frenemies and will do anything to get rid of larkens. Larkens are seen as a disgrace to demon and angel laws and angels and demons are absolutely forbidden to talk to them but the thing is on earth you can never really tell the difference between humans and larkens. In an absolutely normal high school you get the super smart, athletic and perfect which are your angels; then you get the emo bad and mysterious which are the obvious demons and then we have the larken which are the in-betweens and it is extremely hard to identify them from humans. So what happens when Nora does the forbidden and falls in love with a boy who she thinks is human?
