The difference between hot and cold is how you feel when you're with someone. It was a stormy night, and I was driving home from my family's lake house with my best friend. It was labor day weekend, and we had just made the best of the summer that we could.
The boys were asleep while Mia was crying to me how this was our last year of high school together. Noah heard her crying, so he popped his head up and pecked her on her lips to make her feel better, they just had their 7 month anniversary. Lucas looked drowsily up at me and smiled, "Cam you're graduating this year, look at how much is coming up for you." Noah and Lucas are juniors. Noah started talking about how they have one more year to go when we hit a slippery wet spot on the road. Mia shrieks, "look out!" and the truck comes to a halt. I exhale a deep breath.
I didn't know I was holding in, "is everyone okay?" Mia looks frantic as Noah and Lucas were already out inspecting the truck to see if it was okay. Lucas comes and opens my door as he thankfully scolds, "thank God you're alive," as he hugs me tightly. Noah pulls Mia out of the truck and kisses her passionately, smiling at the fact that we're all okay. Lucas lets go of me and dreadfully brings up that I need to call my Dad to inform him on what happened. He explains, "I don't really want you driving after this, you look terrified as it is." I roll my eyes, but I understand what he's saying, so I resentfully pick up my phone. I dial his number, and on the last ring he picks up "Hello?" he yawns sleepily. "Oh, dad, I didn't see how late it was." I sigh a deep breath, ready to spit out the words. "So Dad I hit a slippery spot on the bridge and we had to stop pretty quickly, and Lucas wants to know if Noah or Lucas can drive." My Dad breathes swiftly as he sighs and just quickly spits out "Noah" and hangs up. Noah looks at Mia and goes to the driver seat, and Lucas moves me back to the backseat. As soon as I get comfortable, I fall straight to sleep on Lucas's leg. Five minutes before we get home, my phone rings, its Tyler, my boyfriend. Lucas picks my phone up, annoyed, "Hello." Tyler's voice is deep "I saw on life 360 that Cam got into an accident are yall okay?" Lucas rolls his eyes and sighs "Yes, we are fine she's asleep now call her in the morning." Tyler looks at the phone he's talking on and screams "whatever!" and hangs up.
As soon as he hangs up the phone Noah has arrived at my house, Lucas grabs me and carries me inside. When he opens the door, my Dad is standing right there, waiting for an explanation of what happened. Lucas whispers "I'm gonna go put her down in her bed, she was pretty freaked out by what happened." My Dad nods at him and breathes a sigh of relief that he sees we are all okay. Mia follows Lucas to my bedroom and crawls sleepily in bed next to me. Noah gives Mia a kiss on the forehead goodnight and goes back out to the truck to bring all of our stuff in. My Dad looks at the boys and questions about how the weekend went. The boys kept the conversation going for a good 30 minutes and yawned sleepily, indicating they were ready for bed also. He excuses the boys to bed and heads up to bed ten minutes after them.
The next morning my mom woke up first bringing Mia and me our coffee so we would get out of bed. It was going to be a long day with everything that had happened last night. I reluctantly open my eyes and text, Tyler, "Good Morning, baby." As I smell the coffee, I take two big sips, starting to wake up. Lucas is at the door knocking, "come in." He smiles at me, "look who is ever happy this morning for a non-morning person." I throw a plush pillow at him, indicating for him to shut up. He just laughs and lightly throws it back at me. He picks me up into a hug and squeezes tightly. "I'm so glad you're okay." he breathes a sigh of relief after the night we just had. "I know me too," I reply quietly. He looks at me and sees me turning white, grabbing my hand, he pulls me in, and calmly tells me, "come on, I think Mom is making breakfast." We walk outside, and my mom embraces me tightly and whispers in my ear, "I'm so glad you're okay." A tear drops down my face, and Lucas looks straight at me, he smiles hoping it cheers me up. Noah comes walking into the kitchen and rubs his stomach, "man I'm starving, what's for breakfast?" My mom glares at him, and he backs out of the kitchen slowly, "Mia, she's crying." he quietly whispers. Mia scrambles into the kitchen and embraces me into a huge hug, she whispers calming phases into my ear. I let go, plastering a fake smile on my face, wipe the tear stains from my checks. Lucas looks at me knowingly that I'm not okay, but I ignore it.
Everyone tries to distract me with funny videos and stories about my childhood. Noah starts portraying a story about me when I was little, and Lucas smiles a huge grin, I looked down at my phone because it vibrated and saw Tyler had texted me back. Lucas glances at me, seeing my sad face. "Cam? What's wrong?" he whispers in a low voice. I roll my eyes and show him the text message. Cam, you should've told me about the accident last night. I was apprehensive about you. Sometimes I wonder if we even had a real relationship. Lucas glares at the phone. He stares at me in wonder about what I'm going to say back. I begin texting back, I suppose I fell asleep right after it happened, I'm sorry you feel like I'm not communicating with you. Lucas even carried me to my bed and plugged my phone in. That's why I texted you as soon as I woke up. I give the phone back to Lucas, and he reads the text message. He looks at me in awe, "you shouldn't have to apologize to him, you are so stressed from the accident you've been crying." The next thing I know Tyler is calling my phone, which Lucas reluctantly hands me my phone.
I hit the answer button and quietly whisper, "Hello?" Tyler sighs deeply, "cam, can I come over, please?" I began crying wishing he never called me, I sigh annoyed, "yeah, I guess." He hangs up the phone, and I crawl into Lucas's arms for comfort. As I lay my head in his lap, he plays with my hair trying to relax me. I close my eyes and the next thing I know, I've drifted off to sleep, dreaming about the accident. Apparently, it wasn't just a bad dream, Lucas grasps me into his arms because I'm screaming once again. The replay of the crash plays over and over until I hear the door of my house open. Lucas scolds at Tyler as he walks in the door. Tyler smiles at me, as I look so sleepy from the nap I just had. Lucas excuses himself from the room not being able to bear watching the relationship I'm staying in.
We sit down on the couch, and he starts explaining himself about him being so upset. I nod, showing him I understand what he's saying. He gives me a hug and then takes his hands to clasp my face. He stares at me for ten seconds and then places a soft kiss on my lips. I kiss back with the need of his lips on mine, the passion in the room seems like it could start a fire. I couldn't stop thinking about me needing a distraction so, I pull off his shirt seeing toned tan abs. He lifts his eyebrow at me in confusion, as I grab his hand to take him up to my room. We get into my room, and I shut and lock the door. He starts to ask a question, and I just place a finger over his lip. I take off my shirt and start kissing him again, as I whisper in his ear, "I want you inside of me." He grins a wicked smirk as I started kissing him again, leading my lips sucking up and down his neck. As I pull his pants off, someone is knocking on the door.
