Time Machine

In my head I’m going back through all the little stupid things I said
And I’m trying to figure out the moment I lost my head
The combination of senses put us in the red, in the red.

He looked down sadly at the picture in hands. "I'm so sorry Shirley..." He whispered, remembering every time he brushed off her confessions.

Something inside me pushed to be right
Until I found myself to foregone.

He gently fingered her smiling face in the photo. Then he remembered at her father's funeral. How she was so broken. All because of him. He clenched his jaw.

If I only had a time machine
I would take you back to the moment

He replayed all those times where she would smile at him and call him Lulu. He replayed all those times where she would cheer him up with her smile.

He shook his head at his stupidity. How did he not see that she was more than a friend to him?  You never know what you have till you lose it, he thought bitterly.

Love was the only thing that was ever between us,
Now you’re miles away and I’m missing your touch
And the pain inside is just getting to be too much, way too much.

He fell back on the bed and placed a hand over his eyes. He just wanted for her to remember again. Every time he saw her, she would smile but was distant. They were practically strangers again.

Something inside me had to be right
Until I found myself in the wrong, so wrong.

He thought it was best for her. For both of them. How wrong of him. Now every time he sees her in class, he regrets it so much. Regretting it to the point where it would hurt to look at her.

If only he could go back in time. He would fix everything wrong. If he could go back in time, he would love her to no end.

It was too late. After he lost her, he realized just how much she meant to him.

If I could go back and admit I was wrong
I would take it all back and you will still be mine.

If he could go back in time, she would still love him. She would still be his.

He suddenly got up with the picture in hand and walked to his table. Picking up the lighter, he looked at the picture one last time. "I love you Shirley." He said quietly.

And then the picture went up in flames.
