Ghost by Halsey
Maxx
The tears that spill from my eyes blur my vision and I run into someones backpack. It smells like oakwood cologne. The same one I got Bayli for Christmas. The owner of the familiar scented bag turns around I feel my shoulders tense a little.
Bayli.
Great. There's no way I'm leaving now. He's going to ingterogate me and that's the last thing I need right now. Bayli turns and his smile falls into a frown when he sees my face. He grabs ahold of my elbows. I try to wiggle our of his grasp but he only tightens it. "Bayli let go."
"Why are you crying?"
"Let me go. I want to leave."
"Maxx, what's wrong? What happened? Please tell me. I'll let go if you do. What happened?" He keeps asking and it only causes my tears to fall faster. I need to get out of here.
Now.
"I said let go!" I lick his right hand and he immediately releases me.
"What the hell Maxx! That's so gross!" He feverishly searches through his backpack for his hand sanitizer. He's such a germaphobe.
I take it as my cue to leave.

Running.
That's what I've been doing for the past twenty minutes.
Running from the school.
From my peers.
From Bayli and his questions.
From my past.
From my problems.
From Levi and that kiss.
From everything. I'm running from everyone and everything in my life.
My mind is full of thoughts that I just can't sting into coherent ones.
Why did Levi kiss me?
Did I seriously slap him because of it? Or was it because of what Mitchel had done overcame me? I'm just confused and overwhelmed. I come to a stop and sit on the curb of this unknown house. I unfasten my heels and place them next to my bag. I look at my surroundings and inhale the salty air.
I've missed this.
The calm silence that ingulfs my senses. The light breeze that blows in my wavy hair, causing the raven colored waves to become more predominant.
I close my eyes and welcome the sun's warm rays on my skin. I aburtly open my eyes when I hear the sound of a door slamming shut. I see a boy around my age saunter down the driveway of the alien house.
I scramble to my feet and start to walk home when I realize that I have no idea where I am. I could call Bayli and have him pick me up. I weigh both of my options before deciding to walk home. I'll just use my GPS for directions. I fish my phone from the bottom of my bag and I power it on. Instead of the lock screen, I'm greeted by a black screen. What the heck? Why won't it turn on? Maybe it's dead.
Great.
I let out a sigh and hesitantly approach the boy, mindlessly typing on his phone.
"Hi." He jumps a little before sliding his phone in his back pocket and giving me a small smile.
"Hey. What's up?"
"Funny story. I'm actually lost. Do you think you could help me? My phone is dead so I can't call my cousin to pick me up."
