“Where am I?” Krist muttered.

He must still be under the influence of medicine injected on him. He just survived a car crash after a wild night with his BOMB SQUAD- that’s what they call themselves. His eyes widen when he saw his parents entering the room wearing their worried faces.

“Honey, are you okay???” His mom gently touched his bruised face (although he wasn’t aware cos he haven’t seen himself on a mirror yet, and he was numbed) His dad was busy calling someone on his phone.

“Mom, what exactly happened?”

“You did it again, honey. Didn’t we tell you to call your dad’s driver when you get drunk? You almost died!”

Krist smirked. His parents have been nagging him on getting his own driver for his safety but he always rejected their idea.

“This will be the first and last time I got in an accident, mom. I promise” He was smiling but his mom quickly shrugged and sighed.

“As if you have a choice.”

Krist’s forehead wrinkled. “What do you mean?”

His dad sat beside his bed and pointed at his left foot which was bandaged.

“It will take some time before you can walk properly, son. You need several months of therapy”

Krist’s face went blank as he gaped at his foot, he couldn’t feel it. His hands went on his face searching for bruises. “Mom!!!”

Krist looked so nervous, it’s not just about his injured foot now, there’s something more important.

“Can I borrow your mirror, please?”

AN HOUR EARLIER

─━━━━━━⊱༻  ༺⊰━━━━━━─

No matter how I wanted to get enough sleep for tonight, I have no choice but to extend my duty at the hospital. We have a lot of patients at the emergency ward from a recent car accident. I am a nurse after all, I made a promise to save people’s lives.

This particular patient of mine received the worst injury, I guess. I based it on the amount of anaesthesia given by the resident doctor. As I wiped off the blood from his face, he went hysterical. He’s saying something like “Don’t you ever lick the sweetest jam in the planet” – at least that’s how I understand it – he kept mumbling his words and he seemed furious. When I put the wet cotton on his lip, he bit my finger!

“Mind your own lollipop!”

I quickly pulled my finger away from his face, it was hurt but I couldn’t control my laughter.

The doctor entered the room and gave me a curious look. “What’s happening here Sing?”

“Oh, Dr. Prem. Nothing important. Though he just bit my finger.” I tried to look serious but listening to the patient’s nonsense while seeing him lick his lips just made me burst into laughter again.
