Daniel's father closed the door behind them and sat down behind the very same desk Daniel had been sitting down by just hours earlier as he struggled with alpha-duty.
Daniel sat in the chair across the desk and leaned backwards, he looked expectantly at his father as he cocked an eyebrow, crossing his arms. He didn't exactly want to be in this situation right now seeing as he hadn't slept well and his wolf stirred, begging for a run.
His father sighed as he too leaned backwards while staring at his son.
"Have you thought about looking for your mate? She's clearly not in this pack seeing as you would have found her already if she were."
At this Theseus stopped fighting Daniel, allowing him to focus.
"My mate? What about her?" He began cautiously, he knew where this was going. Alpha Llane had only spoken of this briefly before, Daniel knew that he'd become even stronger with his Luna by his side but he knew that his mate would take up time from the alpha training meaning that he really couldn't win here.
"I've contacted a few of the neighbouring packs and asked..." A sharp knock interrupted the alpha mid-sentence.
"Alpha, we have a situation that demands your attention immediately." Alpha Llane's beta, Mika voiced through the thick wooden door. Beta Mika was Liam's mother and Gamma Darren was Liam's father."Take care of it, Daniel." His father motioned to the door. His father would only call him Daniel when things were official, alpha stuff.
He looked unresponsive for a second and Daniel figured he was mind-linking his beta.
Daniel got up from the stool, gave a nod and headed for the door. Mika greeted him outside and she motioned for him to follow her. He had always admired Mika, women could become warriors but managing to become an alpha or a beta were almost unheard of for women.
"We've had an intrusion." She simply stated and glanced back at Daniel. He furrowed his brows.
"What happened?" He sped up to walk beside the female beta as they made their way towards the dungeons.
"We have one captured, a female." She stopped and faced Daniel. "Listen, we don't know what's going on with her but she's not lycan... She emits a powerful aura but I can't sense her wolf."
"A witch? Perhaps a dryad?" Daniel suggested as they continued down the spiralling stairs.
"Perhaps, we really don't know yet, that's why we called for you, or well, your father." She glanced at him as he grimaced.
"Let's hope I'm enough then" He answered sourly and walked past her.
He entered a room that lead to the room where the female was held and all the guards fell silent.
"Alpha Daniel" They all greeted after a lengthy second. He glanced through the wall made of glass where the female sat on the ground, spread-eagle since her wrists where chained to opposite walls.
"I want to talk to her" He declared after a while, looking at beta Mika who had arrived behind him. She looked at him like he was crazy.
"We have our best interrogators on standby, we're just waiting for your father to give green light. I can't allow you to go in there by yourself." She narrowed her eyes at him and Daniel grew irritated.
"Has father expressed that he wants me to stay out of that room? In that case I haven't been given that piece of information. I'll take a guard with me." He felt disrespected, his entire pack would always remind him about the fact that he wasn't his father or his brother, like he didn't know already. A lot of the pack members had preferred it if his brother had become the new alpha.
