"Run, Raguul, run!" the woman screamed. Men in black robes swarmed in from the windows. Crashes rang through the palace. The little boy stumbled out of the door in a rush, running as fast as his little legs could carry him. Behind him, he could hear the screams of his mother. Using the backpass, he sneaked away towards the garden gate.
As he looked back towards the palace one last time, he crashed into someone. Whimpering, he curled into a ball on the ground and closed his eyes, waiting for his death to come. However, instead of feeling the sharp pain of a blade against his neck, he felt a warm hand on his shoulder. He looked up.
A pair of shining golden eyes gazed down upon him. The owner of those eyes shook the boy's shoulder, snapping him out of his trance.
"I-I'm s-sorry," the boy whispered, looking down.
"Come with me, I'm getting you out okay?" the person said, holding out a hand. Nodding, Raguul took it and got up, following the other. As the two stepped out into the moonlight, the little boy's breath hitched. There, standing before him, was a boy who looked a few years older than himself. The other boy stood almost a head taller, and his lean build gave off an aura of maturity. Inky black hair contrasted sharply with the elder's golden eyes in the dim light. Raguul's face flushed as he looked away. What am I thinking?
Shouts faded as the pair slunk through the streets, hand in hand. When they reached the edge of the city, the golden-eyed boy let go of their hands.
"Stay here alright? I still have something to do back there," he mumbled against the smaller's ear. Hesitantly, Raguul nodded, watching as the boy slipped back into the dark streets.
Suddenly, shouts were heard from the direction of where the mysterious boy went. In panic, Raguul forgot all about his instructions, turned towards the empty desert, and ran.
