I awoke to Link shaking me awake. "Wake up, sleepyhead. It's dawn." I opened my eyes to see a golden light filling the cave, and Link standing over me with his bag slung over his back.

Joy surged through me as I remembered. We were leaving the forest today - finally! I leapt to my feet. "I'm ready."

"Okay, let's go," Link and I walked out of the cave and into the bright light of the forest. Birds chirped and the palms and grass shifted in the warm breeze. "This way," Link said, turning to the right.

I looked around as we walked through the forest. I knew every tree, every root, and every stream and pool that were in the forest. I knew I couldn't stay here forever, but at the same time, it was sad to leave. We walked for a few more minutes, and we reached the end of the Forest. As far as I had ever gone in my life.

"Come on," Link walked quickly across the border between the Faron and the Necluda region, but I stopped in my tracks, looking across the border. I could turn back now, and go back to my tribe. I could go back to the safety of my family's hideout, and stay there forever. But I knew I would regret it for the rest of my life.

I took a deep breath, and stepped over the border and into the grassy fields ahead. A sense of realization flowed over me as I looked over the land of Hyrule, laid out in front of me, calling me.

Hyrule was mine at last.

It was evening in the Lanayru region, and the sun was dipping below the horizon. We had crossed through the Necluda region by the afternoon, and had already passed through a camp of Bokoblins, slaying them all and stealing their food.

"We'll stop at the Wetland Stable," Link announced, looking at a strange device he had earlier introduced to me as a Sheikah Slate. "We can spend the night there, and we should make it to the Eldin Region by tomorrow. They'll also probably sell some Fireproof elixirs there."

"Sounds good," I replied as we came up on a wide, flooded field with tall grasses stretched up around it. In the middle of it was what looked like a large, odd shaped rock. We continued into the field, heading towards the giant stone.

"How long do the fireproof elixirs last?" I asked Link, grabbing a fleet-lotus seed off of the ground and handing it to Link, who put it in his bag.

"It depends what ingredients were used in it," Link replied. "The more fire resistant ingredients, the longer the use."

"That makes sense." I said as we continued down the field. When we got to the large rock at the center, Link suddenly froze in his tracks, staring straight up at the boulder.

"What?" I asked, looking at Link confusedly. He put his finger to his lips and stood staring at the giant stone.

"Why are you just sitting there?" I asked. "It's just a rock!" Suddenly, a loud rumble erupted from the boulder. The ground shook, and I stared in shock as the stone rose from the ground, dirt and sand falling off of it. It had stone arms and legs, and a shining stone sat on top of its head.

"I told you to be quiet!" Link yelled over the rumbling. "You just woke up a Stone Talus!" He drew his sword and stepped in front of me, holding his shield out in front of him as the huge stone finished its ascent from the ground.

"What do I do?" I asked, terrified.

"Here, take this," Link pulled a silver, strange shaped weapon off of his back. "Run away and hide. I'll come find you."

"Are you kidding?" I yelled. "I'm not leaving you here with this thing!"

"Go!" Link handed me the weapon and held his sword tight, rushing up to the Talus.

I stared in horror as the massive creature reached into the ground, yanking huge rocks out of the soil and hurling them at Link. Link gracefully dodged each one of them, then pulled out his bow, shooting an arrow at the shimmering stone on top of the beast's head. The beast tumbled and fell to the ground, and Link raced up and leaped onto it.

"What are you doing?" I screamed at Link. "You'll be killed!"

Link slashed his Master Sword at the ore, sparks flying from its glittering surface. The Talus stood back up and Link slid off, landing on the wet grass below. Fear pulsed through my veins as I watched him dodge more massive rocks and shoot at the ore again.

The Talus fell once more, and Link ran to climb onto it. Halfway there, he slipped on the swampy ground. I watched in terror as he fell onto the mud. The Talus rose up again and looked down at Link. It dug its massive arm into the ground and pulled out the biggest rock yet.

"No!" I yelled as Link looked up at the Talus in horror.

Without giving it a second thought, I raced up to the Talus and leaped onto its stony side, pulling myself up onto its head. It reached up with its stony arms and whacked my leg. Pain jolted my mind, but I ignored it. I grabbed my weapon in both of my hands and smashed it into the shining ore. I stared as it exploded into pieces.

The Talus stood still and fell to the ground, crumbling into charred-looking, black pieces. I tumbled from its head and landed next to Link, who was still laying on the ground.

"Link," I reached over to him. "Are you okay?"

Link sat up and looked at me. "I'm fine," He got up onto his feet. "Are you?"

"I think so," I looked over myself. I had a large, purple bruise on my right leg where the Talus had hit me. "Just a bruise."

Link reached out and helped me up. "You saved me," He said. "Thank you."

I shook my head, about to say something like, "Imagine what would have happened if I had listened to you when you told me to hide." Then I looked at the ground. The pile of charred rocks had disintegrated into dust, leaving behind what looked like hundreds of tiny, gleaming blue stones in the grass.

"Look!" I pointed to the stones. I rushed up to the scattered pile and started picking them up. "What kind are these?"

Link walked up beside me and picked a gem up. "What a disappointment," He looked upset. "Just lousy luminous stones."

I looked up at him. "What do you mean, 'lousy'?" I looked into the mesmerizing glow of a stone. "I think they're beautiful."

Link shrugged. "Maybe, but they're not worth much." He tossed his stone on the ground. "Only about seventy rupees, and that's for the big ones. These are way smaller."

"Well, I'm taking some." I started looking through the grass for the prettiest and brightest ones, when I noticed a blinding glow coming from a spot in the grass. I crawled over to it and stared at its source in awe.

It was a huge, glowing stone, about the size of a hydromelon. It was bigger and brighter than all of the others, and it was perfectly spherical in shape. I reached out and touched it, running my fingers over its outside. It was smooth and perfect, and warm to the touch. I stared into its mesmerizing light, which was somehow blinding without being painful to look at.

"Link," I called. "How many rupees do you think this is worth?"

He ran over and stared down at the stone. "Holy Hylia," He crouched down next to me and touched the stone. "It's perfectly round! I've never seen anything like it before."

"We're bringing it with us." I said, reaching down to pick it up. When I lifted it into my arms, I was surprised to see it strangely lightweight. It weighed scarcely as much as a single green rupee.

"Alright." Link stood up, pointing with his sword. "Now, to Death Mountain."
