I knocked on the door. "Come in".

"Hi Kyle. Do you want to take a seat?" I nodded to Ms. Coulter and sat down. "What can I help you with today?" I squirmed in my seat. What would I say?

"Mr. Andrews told me I should talk with you." She nodded for me to continue. "I am wearing a girl's shirt. .... It's my sisters."

"It's okay Kyle. Perhaps we should have a talk about what you are feeling now and any issues or thoughts that you are having." What? No! "Would you like to wear the rest of the girls uniform?"

"No. No miss. It was a mistake. I just picked the wrong shirt this morning. I am a boy. I am very happy being a boy."

"Okay. Okay Kyle. It seems like a hard mistake to make. Is everything okay at home?"

"Yes fine miss."

"Alright then Kyle. We have just one situation to solve. The school uniform policy is shirt and tie or girls fitted shirt and string tie. And as you know if someone does not meet school uniform standards they are sent home. Is there any one at home Kyle?"

"No my mother is away at work."

"I can't send you home then. That's not ideal. I have a spare string tie here." She reached into a draw and pulled out a dark green string tie. "You will just have to wear it for the day and drop it back to me at the end of the school day." Just then the bell went.

What!? What am I going to do? Every one will see. "Do I really have to miss?"

"Yes I am afraid so. I understand it will be a bit embarrassing but it will be over before you know it."

I took off my tie and placed in to Ms. Coulter's out-stretched hand. I gingerly picked up the string tie and then hesitated not even sure how to put it on. Seeing my problem Ms. Coulter stood up. "Here, I will help you." She lifted the shirt collar, tied a big bow and then fixed my collar back down.

"Now out you go Kyle and run along to your next class. You don't want to be late." She opened her office door and half pushed me out.
