Today was the day.

Today was my first date ever since freshmen year. I was more nervous than excited, but just that little buzz of excitement had me leaping out of bed. I felt silly and dumb for letting something as small as this get my hopes up so high, after all it could turn out horrible; but it just felt nice,  ya know?

I picked out one of my favorite outfits - at the moment, it was a jean skirt overall with flowered embroidery decorating its surface. I wore a plain, white t-shirt underneath and topped it with a white sweater.

My brain told me to let my sandy hair cut loose and bounce any which way it wanted, so I did

My brain told me to let my sandy hair cut loose and bounce any which way it wanted, so I did. I went with my usual light makeup and took a look in the mirror.

I smiled at what I saw, a start. Good or bad one? I don't know, but its a start. I'm no longer invisible on the radar, even if it is only a little less invisible, and maybe that's a good thing for once. On that note, I head downstairs to grab my backpack and some yogurt.

"Alexa!" I rushed up to my sister with a grin and choked her in a purposely too tight hug.

"H-hey...Lace..." She coughed out.

I pulled away and held her at arms length to survey her. Lex's light brown locks were still as neat and as elegant as I remember and her honey eyes reflected the warmth of friendship from my childhood.

"I-..I'm so happy your home." I beamed.

"That makes two of us." She chuckled. She even laughs gracefully.  I take two spoons and two yogurt cups to the counter where we both take a seat.

"Ok start talking, sweet pea. Favorite outfit? Beaming energy? Yea, what's this about?" She questioned, eyeing me with amusement and curiosity as she took a bite of her yogurt.

I chuckled shyly. "Yours truly...uh, has a date!....with Jay."

"Oh? Little sweet pea here with Jay Rivera?"

"Eeeeyup."

She nodded and looked from her yogurt to me and back. "...What?"

"Hmm? Oh nothing, just...uh thinking about how late your gonna be."

My eyes snap to the clock. 7:52. Oh shi-

"I gotta go! I'll see you later, Lex!" I scrambled for my things and threw on my shoes. Then I turned to Alexa with squinting eyes and a pointing finger. "And you better be here when I come back."

She nodded with a small laugh. "B-Be careful please!" I heard her call out just as I closed the door.

I jump up almost all the steps and dash into the hallway just as the bell rings. I fumble for my locker and keep looking around to see more and more people disappearing.

"Hey, hey, hey." Rough hands stop my own and I'm soon face to face with Jay. His pale blue eyes drift around my outfit before meeting mine again. "Woah, someone looks..." His hands surprise me and grab my waist gently, very slowly drawing me closer. He looks at me before acting nervous and clearing his throat. "...nice, uh yea just nice."
