Niko was roused from her nap on the couch, feeling groggy as she tried to sit up. She hadn't realized she had fallen asleep on the couch to begin with; as interesting as they were, she could never make it through a full Pokémon documentary without falling asleep. There was nothing on the television at the moment but static, so she reached for the remote to turn it off. Not finding it where she believed she had left it, she started shoving her hands into the cushions, tossing pillows here and there looking for it. Letting out an exasperated sigh, she stood up, proceeding to search the floor.
Right as picked it up from the floor, there was a persistent knock at the door.
Niko whipped her head towards the noise, startled to hear it. Looking out the window, she assumed that it had to at least be around four, or five in the morning with the way that the sky was already changing color, but the sun had yet to peek over the horizon. Turning off the TV, she dropped the remote onto the table.
Maneuvering around her sleeping Pokémon, she made her way to the door.
It was a weekend, her break, so no trainer wanting to battle should've been bothering here, especially at this hour.
Spreading her legs over the Slowpoke that insisted to sleep directly in front of the door, she swung it outwards, nearly colliding with whoever was standing.

"What- Watch it you fucking bra-"
The first voice was cut off by one that Niko easily recognized.
"That's no way to speak to your future Mentor," Hala said, poking his head behind the half-opened door, "Niko! We're not disturbing you are we?"

Niko smiled softly, she was always happy to be visited by Hala. After all, he was the one who originally convinced her to start her Pokémon journey in Alola. She took a step back, glancing down at the Slowpoke.
She really hoped that they'd excuse him, and well, all the other Pokémon sleeping in the house.
She stepped over the Slowpoke, and onto the porch, closing the door behind her.
Niko finally took the time to look at who Hala had brought, her eyes widening in shock.
Guzma? What was Hala thinking by bringing him here?
"Well, I was hoping that you'd train him! Help him turn a new leaf," Hala nudged Guzma's arm, "He's trying to make-up for all the trouble Team Skull caused years ago."
Niko didn't know what to say, let alone think. All she could do was blink at him; she hadn't seen him in years. The last time that she saw him, was the day at Hau'oli City Beach when he wanted to battle her.
"So? Are you up for the challenge," Hala said, putting his hands on his hips.
Niko looked at Hala for a moment, then back at Guzma. He wasn't looking at her, shoulders slumped, hands shoved in his pockets. His shoes seemed to be the most interesting thing for him to look.
But as the sun rose, and shone around his figure, she saw more than just a gangster, she saw someone who just felt defeated, and alone; and Niko knew that same exact feeling all too well.
Niko looked at Hala, and nodded her head.
She accepted.

~~~~~A/N:I wrote this story a bit differently, but if you pay attention, you'll catch on. I kept the same style as the Pokemon games. In which the main protagonist, the player, does not have any quoted words. If you were able to understand how the player spoke in the game, then you'll understand. I also made it as obvious.To clarify, none of the dialogue by the main protagonist is in quotations. Good luck-And I hope you enjoy! ^w^
