"Skadi! Come to me. Please!" Tears rolled down the cheeks of Cristina Grace as she wandered aimlessly around her once chic villa which was now reduced to ashes.
"Skadi! Please! Where are you? You don't need to be scared. I'm here. Come here Skadi. I don't even know where you are." Cristina sobbed as she crawled on the floor searching through the mounds of ashes hopefully, she whipped them away with her trembling hands as she tried to find even a small trace of Skadi; her brown eyed Alaskan Malamute.
Four years ago, Cristina had found Skadi, back then a small puppy, on her doorstep, trembling as she snuggled against the doormat for warmth in the nerve chilling cold of Alaska.
Cristina took her in gave her some warm milk to drink and small bits of pork chops to eat before wrapping her up in an old duvet.Skadi and Cristina were inseparable since then. Skadi gave Cristina a good company as Cristina lived all alone at the age of 25. Skadi loved her and to snuggle against Cristina and Cristina loved Skadi too much to deny her. So she always welcomed her with open arms. The day before yesterday had been the same
Skadi and Cristina had fallen asleep while Cristina was reading a book. Suddenly Skadi started barking shrilly.
"Skadi calm down, ginger the cat died a week ago." Cristina coaxed Skadi sleepily." Skadi started tugging at the blanket covering the sleeping firm of her mistress. Soon the blanket was on the floor.
"Skadi! Why would you do that?" Cristina glared at Skadi. Skadi whined and tottered towards the door and started pushing it with her body.
Cristina could now smell the faint traces of smoke. She immediately understood the situation."I'm sorry Skadi, good girl Skadi, come let's get out of here." Cristina opened the door and felt her facial hair singe by the fiery hot smoke. She rushed downstairs with Skadi right behind her, following her beloved mistress.
Cristina and Skadi ran swiftly past the burning pillars and furniture.
Cristina was now on the bottom of the steps, and was about to grab hold of Skadi's collar and lead her towards the main door, Skadi jerked back sharply avoiding Cristina and then pounced on her.Cristina was too shocked and felt herself losing consciousness. She fell back limply far away as a fiery pillar collapsed where she was a moment ago and where Skadi had been. Her neighbours barged in the villa in time for Cristina to not get any serious injury and somehow managed to carry the unconscious Cristina. They phoned the fire fighters on their way out
From the moment Cristina regained consciousness, She has been searching for Skadi. Yesterday Skadi was awarded a Bravery award by her county but then there was no Skadi to put the bravery collar on or to thank.
But Cristina had not yet lost hope. She was still searching through the ashes when suddenly her hands felt something. On uncovering it, Cristina realised it was Skadi's semi burnt collar.
Cristina fervently searched through the ashes where she had found the collar. Suddenly her hands touched something, not one but many small pieces of something which felt hard yet brittle. She feverishly removed the ashes. Another tear slipped down her eye.
It were Skadi's bones.
"Oh Skadi I finally found you." Cristina mumbled incoherently and soon the house was filled with melancholic cries.........Hello,
