"We just have to distract her." Chancellor Ava Paige instructed. "We wouldn't want her solving the maze too early now, would we?"

Arabelle's POV
I woke up on a cold cemented floor, my legs and back are sore. As I slowly flutter my eyes open, I was greeted by the night sky. Where the fuck am I?
I glanced around the place, taking in my surroundings. It's a pretty good sight for someone who just woke up.
Beside me, is a tall cemented wall with long and thick vines hanging off the top. It's beautiful in a mysterious and creepy way. But the place and the humid seems so, dead.
My sight is becoming blurry as I start to get dizzy. I closed my eyes again for a few minutes. Then all the realization hit me. My eyes went wide as I sat up aburptly making my head to ache.
I glanced around the place again while rubbing my eyes from time to time, making sure I'm not just seeing things.
But no, I can still feel the cold air hit my face. No. No, no, no. "Shit!" I cursed loudly as I stood up and started running along the corridor as quietly as possible, taking random turns. Why in the bloody hell am I in the maze in the middle of the night?!
I don't even know where I will go. Then I remembered her. I stopped running and looked around the place. "Amelia!" I whisper/shouted. I know I'm taking a risk but I have to know if she's still somewhere in the maze. "Amelia!" I called again, a little louder this time. I'm surprised that those mechanical creatures didn't hear me yet. After a few more tries of finding her, I gave up. Maybe she's back at the Stade. In this time of the night, I'm sure that the bloody walls are already closed. Nobody survives here a night, but I have to plan something to do so.
I walk along the corridor with my right hand gripping the knife - which I surprisingly found in my pocket - tightly.
That's when I heard the whirring and clicking sound that gives shivers down my spine. I bursted out running, not caring about the pain on my back and legs. I didn't need to turn around and look what it is as I already know it. Those were the mechanical creatures. They have metal body and sharp mechanical arms, more likely weapons. It also produces a bloody slime. It's like an antagonist of your deepest nightmares.
I just kept running while those creatures were keeping up on me. I took a look behind but there's not only one, but five.
What made me curious and slightly worry is none of these paths and sharp turns are familiar to me. Oh you've got to be kidding me. I, Arabelle, the Leader of the Runners, lost in the middle of the maze?!
My eyes widened as I stopped running when I reached the end of a cliff. A bloody cliff. For fuck's sake, none of my whole year of being a runner have I seen a cliff inside this maze. There's a wall across the cliff full of vines. Maybe even thicker than the wall I've seen earlier.
The whirring and clicking sound that those creatures make are becoming louder and louder as they came closer.
I have this idea at the back of my head, but it seems impossible. I don't have any choice either so I have to do this.
I turned around, facing those creatures. I noticed that there were seven of them running towards me, their metal arms clinking against the floor everytime they take a step. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
This is it.
When I opened my eyes, they were about ten yards away. I faced the cliff again and got ready.

"Here goes nothing." I whispered. I jumped off the cliff with all my might and when I got closer to the wall across it, I grabbed one of the vines and landed at the wall with a loud thump.
I groaned as my chest feels like burning from landing on the wall. Well everyone, a disadvantage from being a girl. I looked back at the cliff and saw the mechanical creatures backing away.
I started climbing down the vines and landed on my feet.
I almost sighed in relief but almost came out as a sigh of tiredness as I saw another mechanical creature running towards my way.
I started running again, ignoring the burning pain on my back, feet, and chest. "Bloody hell. Motherfucking creatures." I muttered some more incoherent words while running.
While running, I bumped into a familiar tall figure. She fell on her bum while I stood my ground. When her eyes glazed on mine, I realized she's not a girl. Our eyes both widened.
"You're a girl!" "You're a boy!" We shrieked at the same time. When his gaze fell behind me, he quickly scurried up and started to run away. I bursted out running again, the creature a few feet away from me.
"Wait up!" I yelled. Unfortunately, while running, I tripped on a bloody rock. "Holy fucking hell." I cursed. I looked back and saw the creature keeping up on me. I stood up and when I took a step, I felt a stinging pain on my left ankle but I ignored it and kept running. My adrenaline fully gaining up on me, making me forget the pain I felt all over my body.
I can still see the small silhouette of the running boy taking sharp turns from a hundred feet away from here. Damn, he's fast. Maybe he knows the way. I followed him but it's hard to keep up on him since he runs fast and I have this bloody pain on my ankle making my steps slightly limped.
The creature is still running behind me, making my heart beat faster every second. I can see the boy took a right turn at the end of the corridor. As I'm about to reach the end of the corridor, I heard the familiar screeching of the walls closing.
This is fucking impossible. That wall should be already closed an hour ago. I kept running and when I finally took the right turn where the boy ran, I can't believe what I'm seeing.

A/N: I'm so excited writing this! Bloody hell, I feel so evil bc chapter 1 and a cliffhanger already. Sorry for any spelling/grammatical errors.
I just have to ask you a question. Who's your favorite character in the Maze Runner? I think I'm between of a Newt girl and a Thomas girl.
That's all shanks :)
