After we eat, Harvey and I head into his office, just on the other side of the living room. It's just big enough to fit a desk and small mini bar in the corner, "Well," he says as we both take seat at his desk, "To make sure your back story seemed more realistic, we had to make it look like you just moved back into your old house," he pauses waiting for me to say anything and when I don't he continues, "So, I took the liberty of putting the house up for sale a few weeks back and even staged a couple of open houses to make it look legit.
"A few weeks ago," I ask accusingly, "You were that sure I'd say yes?"
"Yes," he nods his head, "There's no one else I would have trusted this mission with. You know them and it should take no time at all for you and Kevin to get ... reacquainted," he hesitates on the last word which almost brings a smile to my face, "I wouldn't have given you this mission, unless I felt you were ready."
I take deep steady breath before asking, "Anything else I need to know?"
"Everything you need to know is in that envelope," he states.
"Okay," I sigh as I stand form my chair, "Goodnight, Harvey.
"Goodnight, Rose," He says softly as I walk out of his office back up to my room.
I close my door behind me and grab my bag from under the hammock chair. I unzip it, take out the envelope and sit on my bed. I unwrap the string tying it shut and empty out the contents on my comforter. I set Kevin and his family's personal information to the side and keep looking through papers.
I see an updated family photo of the Douglas Clan from Christmas. It feels like it's been a million years since I've seen them. Kevin and his older brother Jonathan have the same short brown hair, whereas is younger brother Robert's blonde hair is long enough for him to put up in a man bun. His older sister Debra cut her long brown hair to a medium length bob. His little sister, Tamsyn, is the one who changed the most. The little girl I saw playing with my younger sister is no longer there. Her long blond hair has been dyed a pale blue and her arms are covered in tattoos.
Weird how I can relate to her the most. I dyed my dark brown hair to a dirty blonde and let the pixie cut I had grown out to the middle of my back. However, the only tattoo I have is the on my wrist to remind me why I chose this life: 08-24-2003.
I shake my head to keep from hearing their screams and focus on the older couple sitting in the chairs in front of their kids. Kimberly's face is more wrinkled then I remember but she's still aged beautifully. Jonathan Sr. on the other hand looks more like a Santa Claus version of himself. I can't help but give a small smile when I look at the children playing with their new toys around their grandparent's feet.
I grab the information sheet and put names to faces and commit everyone to memory. I grab the journal that was given to me in the envelope and start writing important information that I might need - in code of course.
Among the contents of the envelope is a rose gold iPhone 7 still in the box, a set of car keys with a couple house keys attached, a high school diploma, an associate's degree in Phycology and Counseling and a packet that's supposed to have all my information on it. The first couple of pages of the packet is all blacked out. The only thing that's not blacked out is my name: Emily Rose Jenkins.
I set the packet a side and picked up the iPhone 7 box and open it to see a piece of paper: Phone is already set up per instructions. Check in with Mary twice a week. Code - 10452637.
I roll my eyes at the name they gave my handler as I put the code in. I head to the settings to change the code and enable the Touch ID security. I sit my phone down and pick the packet up and flip to the third page and read carefully:
