(Our main characters name is Katie and that's who we view the story through and is the one falling in love ;) )

I sat in the car bored, my mom and my older brother sat in the front talking about something pointless like usual. As always I was sandwiched between my younger sister and all our luggage. The inablitly to move had made my ass numb and my phone was out of charge so I couldn't even fade out my sister's constant whining. I wasn't big standing at 5'4 and I was pretty skinny yet I was still being crushed in the car emphasising how bad this ride has been for me. My mom looked at me in the mirror and sighed "Katie you know if you keep frowning like that your face is gonna get stuck that way." I simply rolled my eyes. "Mom when does Katie ever have any facial expression" my brother chimed in mockingly.
"Thanks for contributing to the conversation David" I snapped tired of my whole family.

I'm not usually enthusiastic about many things but the idea of moving to a sleepy rural town full of old people and crazys was maybe the worst thing I could imagine. We rolled up to a gas station and my mom turned to us all "Ok we're about 5 minutes out now so I'll buy you all one thing from the gas station for being so patient."

"Yay" I said sarcastically and highly unenthusiastically as I hurried my sister out of the car. I heard my mom sigh heavily and I paused for a moment. I did feel sorry for my mom. My dad was out of the picture when my sister was born never to be seen again and things only went down hill from there. Mom struggled to hold a job and that's why we're moving out of the city. That's the only reason I'm here. We're all she has left and she'd break without us.

I entered the gas station and got myself a coffee. that was all I needed to get me through this last 5 minutes of hell so I bought it and left quick. The place looked like crap and smelt twice as bad. My mom saw me and her face softened "I said I'd buy you that" she said. I sighed "Mom it's fine put it into getting Yasmin something nice." Yasmin was my little sister and as annoying as she was I still really cared for her. She was 12 and she looked up to me so I try to be a good role model.

My mom placed her hand on my shoulder gently "I know this has been hard for you but please give this place a chance it's gonna be good for us I promise." When she talks like this I can't be sarcastic even if I tried. "F..fine Mom whatever." I quickly returned to the car to get at least a few moments of comfort. My brother was already there turned to face me. "She's right you know we could all do with a fresh start"

"Whatever David" I said rolling my eyes. "I'll be the judge of what's good for me"

Soon we pulled up to a surprisingly big house at the end of I'd of the town's roads. "Here we are" my mom said enthusiastically "home sweet home"

We all filed out and looked up at the large building. It was old as he'll but it looked pretty structurally strong considering it was mainly wood. Then the thought of the amounts of dust on the inside caused me to shiver. I grabbed my bags and entered first. My concerns about the first were correct but the interior was actually nice and there was still some furniture left.

"Mom how long has it been since someone lived here?"

She simply laughed suggesting it had been a very long time and she didn't even know. I walked upstairs to choose a bedroom and when I found one that was okay I smiled slightly before I was roughly shoved out of the way by my brother.

"I call this room!" he yelled leaving me glaring at him. "I was here first it's mine"

"oh yeah?" he got closer to my face bending down as he was taller than me. "well I called it so skidaddle"
Suddenly he slammed the door in my face causing a layer of dust to fall down onto me. I groaned "I hate you!"
before storming off to find a new room. My sister had and mom had got there before me so I got the smallest room down at the end of the hallway. As if this couldn't get worse.

A while later we had unpacked our stuff and we were sitting down in the living room to eat the takeout we'd ordered. My mom spoke up "so I've been looking at things to do in the area and since it's Saturday tommorow I found something for you guys to do while I fix up the house. Me and my brother groaned whereas my sister cheered. She handed us all a flyer for an old place called the Mystery shack. It was obviously a con house but I don't think we had much choice.

this place was not going to be fun...
