A new Dawn

The sun rose upon the hillside, stretching golden rays through the open curtains that framed the giant window and shedding light upon the pale hand of a young man, holding an emerald green book that lost his attention as soon as the sun reached his view. He raised his sight to the blinding light, shifting in his silk nightgown and allowing his eyes to gleam, encapsulated with the beauty of the sun's light. He spent hours like this, moving to the window to trace the shapes of the outside world with soft, (E/C) eyes. listening to the golden silence as precious as a gleaming gem, his heart lulled by the softness of flowers that bloomed in the lush gardens.

This fragile peace, however, was doomed to be shattered.

A harsh knock upon the door startled the young man, his shallow gasp triggering a coughing fit, bringing the person outside into the room, briskly moving to his side.

"Master (L/N)! Goodness, do not over-exert yourself, you know better than to stay awake for so long!" The plump woman exclaimed, supporting the poor boy to his bed as the coughing subsided, beckoning a younger servant to bring a tray and place it on the nightstand beside his bed. "Breakfast has been made, please eat when you're feeling well enough." She said, shuffling over to the young man's wardrobe and pulling out clothes for him to wear that day.

"Thank you for your concerns Hania, but I assure you that I'm perfectly fine." (Y/N) assured, brushing his hair away from his face and reaching over for the tray to settle it on his lap. The plate held his usual breakfast. Rice, miso soup, and some grilled fish prepared specifically for his tastes. Along with that, he had some green tea and his usual medicine for his frail body.

As he began to eat, Hania carried his clothes and placed them at the foot of his bed, neatly folded, and walked over to the door. "Of course master (L/N), I don't doubt that you can handle yourself. I only worry for your health." She told him. "When you have eaten your food, just ring the bell and someone will be sent to take your tray and help you dress Master (L/N)" Hania said, bowing before turning and closing the door behind her, leaving the boy alone once more in the silent room lit by the sun.

(Y/N) ate in silence, cherishing the lack of sound before he began to hear the soft song of a Bush warbler outside his window, calling out softly into the breeze, accompanying the rustling of the plants and trees. He sat in peace as he ate, smiling to the song that comforted him. Before long he had eaten what he could and taken the necessary medicine, ringing the bell with a soft chime and waiting in the comforting warmth of his room.

A soft knock broke the peace once again, the door opening to allow three people in. The young servant from before scurrying towards the tray and bowing curtly before nervously leaving without a word, his arms shaking when in the presence of the young man. The other two bowing before helping (Y/N) to a chair and beginning to change him into the new clothes.

"The new boy, what's his name?" (Y/N) asked, startling the two servants with his sudden question, hesitating for a second before continuing their job. (Y/N) huffed, upset at being ignored. "Come on Yori, it's just a name." (Y/N) pushed, turning to look the man in the eyes.

Yori stood up straight with a sigh, pushing thin glasses up his nose before addressing the young man. "His name is Daigo, he's a new employee. Your father would prefer that you avoid befriending any more of the staff." He replied bluntly, picking up the bedclothes to take to the laundry room.

(Y/N) puffed his cheeks, his pettish nature showing. "Father's mean, what's wrong with making friends? If I can't leave the grounds then what's the matter with getting to know the people who I'm going to be around all the time?" He whined, making Yori suppress a chuckle at his antics. (Y/N) crossed his arms, standing as soon as he was dressed and picking up his blazer and pulling it onto his arms, doing it up himself before he was handed his staff.

"Young Master, you know better than us that you're going to be allowed to leave the grounds today." Yori chuckled, smiling at the smug grin on the young (Y/N)'s face that assured him that that fact was not going to stop the young boy from trying his luck with befriending the new boy.

Yori lowered and shook his head in amusement and turned, stopping only at the sound of (Y/N)'s voice, allowing the other servant to pass him. "Yori. Before I forget. Prepare a trip to Yakamachi docks. We must arrive by 4 at noon." He ordered, the air hanging still for a moment before a grin broke across Yori's face.

"Indeed. And we shall board the Kanijinmaru ship to take us to the hunter exam."
