Chapter 3

"Bye mommy, see you later!" Taehyung said as he hopped out his mother's van and into his school, waving his tiny hand to her as the other held his backpack. He skipped along down the hallway and to his classroom, smiling at some of the kids he passed. Taehyung was known around his grade for being one of the friendliest and had many friends to play and eat with during snack time and recess. Taehyung burst into the room, immediately greeted with its bright atmosphere and playful kids. Taehyung was in kindergarten and adored every minute of it. He got to learn, play, and make friends, what else could a five year old want?

"Taehyungie, come play diner with us!" A group of three girls called out from the play area, where a big play kitchen sat and was scattered with fake foods.

"Okay!" He called back, hanging up his backpack and lunchbox in his assigned cubby and rushed over to the girls. Taehyung and one of the girls, Seulgi, pretended to be on a dinner date as the other two, Nayeon and Yeri, pretended to cook and serve them. The pair on their "date", happily pretended to eat the food and complemented the chefs on their "delicious food".

"Alright everyone, time for class to start," A kind voice interjected their playtime. They all stood up and faced their teacher, Ms. Choi, and then rushed into their seats. Once they were all seated, the class chorused their daily, "Good morning, Ms. Choi!"

The teacher laughed and greeted her students with a "good morning" as well. "Now today, we will continue with our lesson on the alphabet, and the difference between consonants and vowels."

A loud bell sounded, and following it came a hoard of little kids bursting through the school doors and into the playground. Taehyung shouted in excitement, making a beeline for the jungle gym. He and a few other boys climbed and swung from the bars, Taehyung looking over at the vast sea of children. Over by the vacant tether ball pole, stood a familiar boy, one that was too short to reach the ball no matter how high he jumped.

"Jiminie!" Taehyung squealed, quickly scrambling down the jungle gym and running jubilantly to the lone boy. Jimin looked over surprised to see a wide smiled Taehyung running at him with full speed. Taehyung shouted happily as he tackled the smaller boy in a hug, both of them falling to the ground.

"Jiminie, I didn't know you went to this school! How have I never seen you before?" Taehyung exclaimed, gingerly wiping the dirty of his pants.

"Ah, well, I don't really have others to play with...so I uh...don't really play in the playground," Jimin said sheepishly as he patted the dirt off his pants.

"Well that just wont do," Taehyung said with a pout, "I can't let my little Jiminie be lonely. You can play with me and my friends!"

"Oh! Um...are you sure?" The shy child asked.

"Yes yes! We can play everyday and I can help you make new friends. My friends are super nice and will take good care of you, I promise!" Taehyung replied happily, patting Jimin's fluffy head. He suddenly grabbed Jimin's hand, causing the boy to looked up into his bright eyes.

"You ready?" Taehyung asked. A gleeful little smile spread on Jimin's lips, and he nodded with an affirmative hum. Smiling as well, Taehyung ran hand in hand with Jimin to the crowded playground.

"Ah! Hobi, Yoonie!" Taehyung shouted suddenly, causing two other boys to look in their direction.

"Hi Taetae!" Shouted one of the boys, sporting a lovely heart shaped smile. The other had a content, yet equally happy grin on his face.

"Guys, I want you to meet my friend, Jimin," Taehyung introduced, Jimin giving a shy wave and a small smile, "He's a little shy, but he's really sweet and I wanna help him make friends."

"Well, we'll be your friends Jimin. My name is Yoongi, but you can call me Yoonie if you want. And this is Hoseok, but he likes to be called Hobi. What's your nickname?" Said Yoongi.

"Umm...Taehyung likes to call me Jiminie..s-so that will be my nickname!" Jimin replied, gaining a little more confidence at the end.

"Jiminie it is, it's so nice to meet you!" Hoseok cheered, clapping his hands together.

"New friend group hug!" Taehyung suddenly shouted, scooping up his friends into a big hug. They all squeezed back, giggling merrily at the making of a new friend. Once the hug ended, Hoseok have a small gasp.

"Hey Jiminie, wanna come see this squirrel Yoonie and I found by the bushes. The squirrel's really cute and chubby!"

"I'd love to!" Jimin replied with a hop of excitement. With that, the group of boys ran to see the squirrel, all smiling wide and giggling as they ran into the field. Jimin looked over to Taehyung, who had his arms stretched out as he ran in the cool breeze, and smiled. The little boy couldn't have been happier to have made his new friends.
