Kaylie slumped solemnly in the car, gazing out at the streaks of colours gliding past her. The car ride was bumpy as usual which made her jerk forward and slide back again. The pitter patter of rain could be heard from outside and the clouds slowly turned to a darker shade of grey. The crash and boom of thunder could be detected from a mile off and the sharp flashes of lightning shuddered the heart of Kaylie as the car slowly made it's was towards the gates of hell. These gates were like no ordinary gates, these ones stood as tall as giants and they twistingly towered above the swarm of ants who walked below. Their black, matt paint flattened the smile of every child who ever walked inside them. The gates had screaming crows placed on top of the pillars of black, warning those never to venture inside. Seeing these gates standing out of the ground made Kaylie quiver in her seat. The shadowy spikes seemed to engulf her.
"It's going to be okay Kaylie" Ollie whispered into her ear.
"I hope Ollie..." She mumbled.
Ollie took the younger girls hand in his and began to rub small circles into the palm, easing the pain which the both were feeling. As Ollie did this, Kaylie let her head drop lightly onto his shoulder and ran her hand through his soft coffee curls.
"We're about to pull up" the woman said "get your stuff ready"
This was about to be the part which Ollie and Kaylie had been dreading. They didn't want to get out of the safety of the car. They didn't want to be split from each other. Deep down they knew that they would have to, but they just don't want to believe it. Their strong bond which holds them together is going to slowly break. The lump in their throats slowly grow as the car pulled up in front of the building.
"Alright. Get out now" spoke the woman
All of the 7 people in the car all hurried out onto the curb. They were all dressed in their plain brown raincoats and had the buttons tightly buttoned up. They all lined up and had all their belongings with them: bags, hats, coats, shoes and everything else that each of them might have needed. The woman also got out of the car. She was carrying a small clipboard and a violet umbrella. The clipboard had 7 tags latched onto the clip, each with a full name, age and date of birth. She called out each name with a loud voice and handed the correct tags out to each person. Kaylie's tag read out: Kaylie-Grace Johnson. Ollie's tag read out: Oliver Dylan Chris.
Once all the kids had been given their tags, they attached them to their bag handles and turned to look at the towering building ahead of them. Small prison like windows scratched their way out of the stone walls. Yellow light shone out of some of them but others loomed blankly above them. The drops of rain slid down their faces and dropped down into puddles around their feet. Many of the children were crying but the trickles of water mixed with their salty tears and their sobs were drowned out by the sudden roles of thunder echoing around them.
A young blonde boy began to tug at the sleeve of Ollie's raincoat.
"Excuse me.." He muttered
"Yeah" Ollie replied
"Do you know were my daddy is?"
"No I'm sorry kid"
"Oh.. Okay. He said he was just going out and then he never came back"
"Do you know where he was going?"
"No" he sniffed "he just said he was going out and then he didn't come back to me. Strange people came to my house and asked me questions about my daddy but I didn't know anything. Why did they do that?"
"I don't know buddy. Did they say anything to you" Ollie asked
"I don't think so. They just told me that I was going away to a better place. They then took me away"
Ollie contemplated what happened to this kids father.
"Do you know if your daddy took his car with him when he left?" Ollie asked
"Umm.." The boy thought for a bit
"Um yes he did! The red car was gone when I watched from the window for him"
"Hmm I don't know where your daddy has gone kid"
"I don't know either" the boy sighed
"Okay children!" The woman shouted trying to speak louder than the thunder "were going to go inside now! I want your best behaviour! No messing around! That goes for you Alex and Adam!" She said giving a stern glare to the two green eyed boys.
"Why does she always pick on us!?" The two boys questioned to each other
"I don't know bro!"
Everyone started to walk towards the building. The entrance doors enlarged as the came closer to them. The doors were old fashioned huge wooden panels with large lion head knockers and handles. The woman wondered up to the buzzer at the edge of the wall and spoke loud and clear.
"Hello. Yes. Yes it's Mrs Price. Yep 7 children. Okay thank you"
She lifted her finger of the button and strolled back towards where the children were waiting.
"Right, were now ready to go inside. Is everyone ready? Got all your things? You won't be able to get them later."
No one answered. They just all stood quietly, waiting in anticipation for the giant oak doors to widen up. They all heard a rumbling hum as the doors etched open. Ollie managed to find Kaylie's hand and grasped it inside his.
"You ready?"
