Kaylie didn't have time to answer Ollie's question because the giant oak door had fully opened. The kids were all forced inside by the four men and women that gripped onto them tightly. Some of the children, like the blonde haired boy started to struggle and scream against the strong hands that seized his stick like, pail arms. Each child was dragged against their will into the dark room which was waiting in front of them.
"Let me go!" The boy wailed
"Please! Where's my daddy!?" He sobbed
Ollie managed to get next to him and pick him up in his arms. He cried into his shoulder still while the men and women pulled them inside.
"Hey, hey it's okay buddy" he spoke calmly into his ear
"I-it's not" he whimpered back
"It is kiddo. Look what's you name?"
"Lucas" he replied
"Lucas, it's going to be okay. I'm here. I'm here" Ollie rubbed circles into his back to calm him down
"I just want my daddy..."
"Lucas...he's not coming back. You need to keep close to me, okay?" Ollie said articulately
Lucas replied slower, not wanting to believe that his father wasn't coming back.
"Okay..."
"Good boy. Take my hand"
The children had entered the building and the doors had shut behind them. The natural daylight was cut off and all that remained was the dim chandelier which hung loosely on the ceiling. Dirty brown painted walls trapped them from every corner. An ebony oak desk was placed on the right and behind the desk sat an elderly woman with slowly greyed hair tied up into a loose bun. Small windows were scattered on two of the back walls and they looked out onto the prison garden and playground. Kaylie saw three little girls playing hop scotch on the concrete, it was drawn out using crumbling white chalk and some numbers were written backwards. Trees with spindle branched lurched over the walls which cut them off from society. They looked sick and ill with death. Birds seemed to perch high upon the high spidery arms of the trees, they squawked loudly like they were trying to tell someone something. Kaylie's daydreaming was interrupted by a deep masculine voice echoing around her head.
"Welcome to Eve-mount institution" spoke the man
"You'll be staying here until you're 18 years old" said another man
All the children stood glued to the floor. Scared out of their minds. Lucas was still clutched to Ollie's neck and he tried to hide his eyes from the stares of the workers at the house. They all glared at them like hawks with laser red eyes. It felt awkward for every child.
"Right so, each of you will be given a room. Some of you may be sharing with other kids" spoke a woman
"I'm I understood!?" She screeched
"Yes" they all answered
"Okay then. Right well I better get started then."
The woman begun to list out each child's name and room in which they would be staying in.
"Alex and Adam Downs will be sharing a room with a boy called Charlie in room 213"
"Marnie will be in room 215 with Cassey, Kaylie and a young girl named Ella"
"Ollie will be with Lucas in room 214 with River"
Each child was given their room numbers and maps to help them find their way through the winding halls. The children were escorted out of the creaking door at the end of the room by a young looking woman with a pink streak in her blonde hair. The woman then turned back into the room and closed the door to leave the children alone and make their way to their rooms. The hallway which they all now stood in was lit by smaller chandeliers swinging from the ceiling. Under their shoes was a long red and blue pictured carpet. It stretched all the way down the hall and had small creases along the side from being worn out. Ollie let Lucas drop safely to the floor and as the children all started to walk cautiously down the hall, the carpet sprayed tiny puffs of dust up their shoes and clothes. As they all kept walking further down the corridor they came to a wide, spiral staircase leading up into another dim lit corridor.
