I look down at my shoes splitting at the sides. My sister clinging to my shoulders. We need a family. Everything is running through my mind and my sister is shaking from the cold. We need food, water and clothes that haven’t been torn apart. My body is bruised and my cheek is dripping droplets of red. The master set the dogs on me as I told my sister to run. I had just had enough of being beaten like a tennis ball; it was just pure cruelty.
The wind biting at my skin leaking through to my bones. My sister is sobbing silently and she sounds like a hissing cat because of her lungs. I saw them beat her and some days she was locked in the cellar so her breathing became abrasive.
We’ve been walking for hours my feet are sore although I can’t stop I can feel it in the air, they are looking for us. I hear a shout in the distance; it’s Mr Rich our master. Its 1811 and we’re in the middle of England somewhere and surrounded by trees. I can’t see anywhere to hide.
“Eli wake up.” I whisper. I see a little opening in the hill up ahead so I run pulling Elise. She’s only 7. How could someone do this to such a little girl. It’s just not fair to do this to me and my sister. I’m only 13; I’m not old enough to be a mother, so they shouldn’t make it seem that I’m the only one who cares about her.
I crawl down into the small gap on the mountainside clutching her tight into my arms as I cup my hand over her mouth. I have to swallow my fear down. I can hear the growl of the dog that smacked at my face. I can tell he’s sniffed us out.
“I know you’re in there!” howls Mr Rich in that familiar husky voice of his. The cry sends a shiver down my spine. I quietly guide Elise to the side of the rock walls. “Georgia come on now I’m not that bad, so how ‘bout you and your sister come out and I take you back to the mansion and you won’t get hurt at all.” He hollows, down into the gap. I can hear his horsey breath billowing down through the gap. He sickens me. All the pain he has caused us will end him in a long river of unhappiness.
“I will come out as long as you promise never to hurt neither me nor my sister again.” I suggest, talking up just so he can hear my echo. He agrees so I swiftly creep with Elise and bolder him off his feet, and then we ran like little foxes chasing after their prey.
Freezing wind flows fluttery around us as we walk. It feels like the night mother died we were cold and so alone. All I remember was Elise’s cry for help and then we were locked away because he killed our mother. He can’t have our forgiveness and he will never see us again. Finally we are free.
