"Excuse me, Emeralda!" Frigga called from across the beautiful corridor in the palace and walked towards Emeralda.

"Good Morning Emeralda. I've been a bit worried about Loki recently. None of the maids are willing to work for him. He's scared them all away." Frigga spoke quietly as she fiddled with her fingers.

"So you'd like for me to work for him?" Emeralda furrowed her eyebrows and a sharp pain formed in her chest.

"Yes. Please Emeralda. You are the only person left that I can ask" Frigga reached out for Emeralda's hands and squeezed them tightly.

"But if I work for Loki then who will help you?" Emeralda's face softened as she squeezed Frigga's hands back.

"I'll be fine. I have a few maids that will work for me" Frigga gave a soft smile.

"I will try my best" Emeralda sighed at the thought of working for Loki but smiled at Frigga to not make her worry more.

"Perfect, I will have all of your belongings moved to the room next to Loki's by tonight" Frigga's eyes had a hint of hope in them as she walked off.

Emeralda took a deep breath as she placed her hand on the doorknob and opened it. She dropped down her bag filled with cleaning equipment in front of the bed and briefly looked around the room.

It was horrific in her eyes. Piles of clothes laying around the floor, tons of books were spread out. Even dirty cups and plates placed on the dressing table. Emeralda walked over to the dresser and reached for the cups and plates.

"Who are you?! And where is Violet my maid?!" Emeralda jumped, her heart pounded against her chest.

She took a deep breath and kept her back towards Loki. "Violet is not your maid anymore, I am" Emeralda controlled her breathing.

"You know that it's rude to not show your face during a conversation" Loki looked up from his book while still spread out on the bed.

Emeralda looked up at the mirror to look at Loki without turning to face him. His lips parted, eyes widened. There was something hidden there. Underneath all the hatred and evil in his eyes. Something soft and vulnerable.

He looked away using his book to hide his face. His heartbeat grew slightly faster, checks turning pink.

Emeralda continued to clean till Loki's room was back to all its glory then left without a word.

*****

"Mother, what did you do?" Loki banged his fist against the table.

"She's not like the others! Why?" He continued loudly.

"Loki dear, all you need to know is that you can trust me with this. I know what I'm doing" Frigga reached out for his shoulder.

"What is it that you are doing mother?" Loki sat down putting his hands together.

"You'll know soon enough my son. Just dont chase this one away" she sat next to him with a sigh. Reaching over she pulled him into her arms and rubbed his back as if he were still a child.

*****

The sun beamed through the openings of Loki's curtains as he laid in bed asleep. Emeralda walked in with a mug of coffee in her hand and a smile on her face.

"Loki wake up" she tapped his shoulder. He grunted and moaned in return.

"Loki?" She lightly tapped his shoulder again.

"What?!" He jumped up and huffed. Emeralda reached out her hand holding the coffee mug. Her legs locked together and palms starting to sweat.

He took a sip and just when Emeralda thought she was in the clear she heard a loud shattering noise. She looked down at the broken pieces of the ceramic mug. With hot spilt coffee covering the floor.

"What the hell did you just give me?!" His voice pierced Emeraldas ears.

"Co-coffee" she tried to speak confidently but it just came out as a stutter. She fell to her knees to pick up the pieces, cupping it gently in her hand she jumped up to walk out the room. "I'll get a cloth"

She was suddenly pulled back and felt herself collide with something warm. Loki gripped her by her wrist holding her all too close to his bare upper body. She quivered under his hold staring into his deep green eyes.

"I'm sorry" His voice! It was soothing, deep and husky.

"I-Its fine" Emeralda tried to walk away but he pulled her back.

"No it's not, I shouldn't have yelled" Emeralda felt fragile and tiny in front of him. Her knees weakened at each moment that he still held onto her.

Her head dropped down as she turned to walk off. Emeralda's thoughts irritated her. Why had he been nice? Why the sudden change of heart?

Emeralda returned to his room with a cloth. Dropping to her knees she wiped the spilt, now cold coffee off from the floor. She looked up to inspect her surroundings. Loki stood by the giant window gazing out at the city. She couldn't help but wander about his thoughts.
