It was a breezy and peaceful day in Beach City. It has been about 2 months since the confrontation with White Diamond. Since then, life for the Crystal Gems had been very easygoing, one could say even boring. Nonetheless, the break has been nice so far. Today you decided to hang out with your friend Bismuth in the Forge, as you did most days. Bismuth always enjoyed the company. She would often entertain you with stories from the Gem War, or inform you with her endless knowledge of weapon making, which could go on for hours. And today was no exception.
"This one's called an anvil! We used to drop these bad boys on gems during the war! I always had one in the forge, but I never thought about using them as weapons until then. Man, I remember the first time I shattered a gem with one. I dropped it from a ledge 10 feet high on an unsuspecting Homeworld soldier. Hah! They didn't see it coming! I went back down to the bottom to see the damage, and they ended up being reduced to nothing but dust. The dust pile was so pretty when it shone in the sun, so I scooped it up and put in my pocket. Later on one of my friends had the idea to paint our faces with it. And that's how holographic makeup was invented! Haha, good times!"
"That's nice, Bismuth," you said. Sometimes her anecdotes could be a bit disturbing, but you tried to remind yourself that it was probably all in good fun back then. But then again, you often wondered if this was her way with dealing with war trauma. Does she even experience trauma? You will probably never know. Of course this was never the number one thing on your mind, what was more important was her friendly and outgoing spirit, which you always admired, or her immense strength, or the way her eyes shined as she looked into the fire. Basically to sum things up, you had a thing for Bismuth. You always thought about this. You always daydreamed about the "What if" and the "maybe someday," but deep down, you knew that these would never happen because you just couldn't bring yourself to tell her how you felt.
Suddenly your contemplation was interrupted by Bismuth setting down a massive metal stick with a spiky ball at the end. You then remembered that this particular weapon was called a morning star, except this one was a lot bigger and sharper than the last one she made.
"Wow, this one looks really nice!" you exclaimed. You knew that Bismuth has been trying to improve upon her skills the past couple months, so you've been trying to make her feel good about her work.
"Thanks! This one seems a little heavy for some gems, though, I might try to make it just a tad bit smaller next time," she said as she threw the weapon into a pile in the corner. "Anyways, I think I'm 'bout done for the day, maybe I might go back to the temple to see what the gang's up to, but I don't know, they might not be doing anything.
You Looked at your watch and saw that it was about 7:00. p.m. You decided to steal this opportunity and ask her out for dinner, but like, you know, as friends. "Hey, um, since you're not busy, maybe we could go out for dinner or something? But it's okay if you don't want to, I understand if you've got plans." you said while blushing a little.
"Me? Have plans? Hah! You've got to be kidding me, I never have plans! Of course we can go out! Just give me a few minutes to put on something slightly nicer." And with that, she ran off to some other room in the forge.
"Wow, she seemed pretty eager to go, maybe this is a sign she likes you," you thought to yourself. But what could you know, you don't know the first thing when it comes to other people's feelings!
